hps light alternative

anyone ever tried those metal halide conversion or retrofit bulbs? i have a hps 250 ballast ansi s50 see many halide retro bulbs at 4000k or 5200k ? any recommendations?

Yep, I have a HPS ballast with a retrofit MH lamp. Take a look at my previous post as to how well the plants are going ;)
 
Go to lowes or home depot and buy an MH bulb the size of your ballast and see if it runs. The HPS is only different in that it is a pulse start which is hard on MH bulbs. For 20 bucks I bet you'll be more that satisfied.
 
it could cause premature failure of a few things.. but i got an electric ballist that runs both. it's lasted a year so far.. :| donno how long from what the ppl at the hydro store say it doesn't last as long as the old heavy guys. but if you have the same hood for the light, just get a new DIY ballast kit off ebay
