Hydro-grow wicker tote

Ok, I just thought I would try this to see how it worked.
I took the idea of Pepper_Rancher from this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3TmEFZIq3s and combined it with some ideas from this one https://youtu.be/wGF72sOwgJI .

Started out with a 30 gallon tote and added about 9 feet of perforated drain pipe on the bottom. Then covered the pipe with a sleeve to keep the dirt out.

Then I zip tied one end to the side of the tote, this is where I will water it from.

Measured down just under a foot and drilled the drain hole. Then took a 1/2 inch elbow, zip tied landscape fabric to one end and pushed it through the hole.

Dumped in a 40 lbs bag of sand, then I had to add a little more to cover the drain plug by about an inch or so.

Here is a pic of my snazzy Gorilla dump-cart in action...Going to take it over some sweet jumps later.

Laid down a piece of landscape fabric to cover the sand and added my soil. BTW if you are mixing a lot of dirt and you can afford it, get a cement mixer your back will thank you and it also mixes my soil very evenly.

Selected one of my runt plants from the greenhouse and planted it as deep as I could.

Covered it with a Black and white Polymer sheet...white side up, then put the lid on it (lid doesn't fit may have gone too big on my tote ...but oh well)

Just going to water it with the Masterblend pepper formula fertilizer and see how it goes.

Complex and very cool, can't wait to see the results. I'm doing 5gal version of pepper ranchers, the masterblend formula appears to speed up growth.

It's been about 5-6 weeks since I planted this pepper plant, I wish I had started it earlier in the year. I have only had to water it like 3 times with a 5 gallon bucket of Master blend water. The tote holds a little over 5 gallons in the reservoir. The plastic seems to be working well as mulch covering, the dirt underneath is moist but not wet even at the top. Next one I build will be a sturdier tote and I will just use coco and perlite mix. First pic is from July 29th the second one is from Sept 7th. It has a few flowers on it but I think it may be to late in the season and the temps are getting cool here, so I dont know if I'm going to have enough time to get any pods. I may put it in the greenhouse and over winter it.
