Hydro Scotch bonnet - Flower drop

Hey all i started this hydro plant thanks to you guys back in december.

It started as a month long seedling

January 20th

Then i found the nutrients mix was wrong cause i found the paper online on how to mix the three. I am using cutting edge solutions 3 part mix (recommended by edgie in the "free nutrients samples" thread)

and in 3 days January 23rd I got some new growth

So ive gone through the growing and did the vegitative
Here it is about a month ago

then when i started to see flowers i changed to the transition mix. Then when they were peppers i switched to the bloom mix. I dont know if thats what i was suppose to do but with the bloom mix i couldnt get high PPM levels like i could in the vegitative mix.

So now im trying to figure out something. I have peppers on all my other plants except this hydro but this is by far my tallest, largest plant. When it gets a pepper it disappears overnight. I have one tiny bud that is basically just the petals fell off that I am hoping might stay around. I am curious:

What is the proper mix I should use right now? Given that im using cutting edge solutions stuff? Is it the transition mix? bloom? more vegitative mix? Or just 3 tbls of each (like ive seen a member do here for his plants)? I'd just like to finally try this pepper haha.

flower drop may be from not pollinated flowers

please try to 'manually' pollinate a few and report back

Ooops i didnt include that i do that. I have been very successful with my other plants with the pollination cause i have peppers from those. So i kinda ruled that out.

maybe try to slightly modify the (pollen transfer) process for these?

maybe a dead bee can be used for a q tip replacement or some type of different strategy for "doing it"

I'm not familiar with the nutes you are using, but I scale the grow (high N) portion of my 3 part way down once flowers start forming. For growth I mix 2ml/L of all 3 parts, for fruiting I mix 1mL/L grow, 2mL/L micro, 3mL/L bloom. I had rampant flower drop on my scotch bonnets before I toned down the nitrogen, and I've had several fruit set since.

Flower drop probable causes:

1. Day temp too high >95F
2. Night temp too low <65F
3. Too much nitrogen fertilizer
4. Too much water
5. Low light levels (reduces fertility).
6. Very low humidity (reduces fertility)
7. Poor air circulation (air circulation contributes to pollination).
8. Lack of pollinating insects.
9. Size of pot
10. Too much mineral in feedwater.
11. Too much grower attention/anxiety.

A new detail i'd like to add is i realized the stems of each of the flowers turn yellow just before they break off.


For the list:
1. Day temp too high >95F
2. Night temp too low <65F Its in a room that has its own HVAC control so i doubt thats the problem

3. Too much nitrogen fertilizer - ill have to see what my mix has in it.
4. Too much water - This i'd like to discuss as i dont know what im doing. I just fill it to where i had it when it was a seedling. I do not know the water level i should have it at. It takes like 3/4 a gallon of water every 3 days. Where should the water level be? By fill it up i mean basically near the top. then it drops below the basket
5. Low light levels (reduces fertility). - its a MH bulb, 2 100w (actual wattage) CFL's and 1 40w (actual wattage) CFL i doubt its that
6. Very low humidity (reduces fertility) - Hmm could be!
7. Poor air circulation (air circulation contributes to pollination). - There is a circulation vent near it so i think thats fine
8. Lack of pollinating insects. well yea indoors but ive had success haha
9. Size of pot - there is a lot more room for roots in that bucket
10. Too much mineral in feedwater. - the ppm is on the low side
11. Too much grower attention/anxiety. - haha these plants are at my work so barely can pay attention to them.

Thanks for all the ideas! Just trying to make sure i include all the info. Ill prob bring in my temp/humidity gauge i have at home to test the highs and lows

Well i decided to just plant the hydro into dirt since the plant is large anyway. The flowers stopped dropping and i finally have some growing. Now i have a question because it doesnt seem like a scotch bonnet to me as it doesn't bonnet out.

is it too small to tell yet?

it may be do you have any pics of "it"? (be sure to include a known size object
near it so we can tell how big "it" is also) {maybe a coin or ruler kind of thing}

the pod shapes may be dependent on environmentalities

Looks to be a baby still. Give it about a week and you should see it starting to take more shape and you can judge from there.
