I just ordered one from planting justice and being east of the Mississippi makes a large shipping charge. This can be grown in much colder climates.

I prefer Yuca to Potatoes.
 
I am now looking more at yams. I have got at least the bulbs of the chinese yams nailed down and I am even getting a couple those yams even shipped to me.
Right I am puzzling over air potatoes. There are two species with different varieties within each species.
Dioscorea bulbifera some are poisonous, some just bitter, and other varieties said to be good eating. I have a possible line on one that is safe to eat, but I want to see someone else eat it first.

Dioscorea alata always safe to eat.

Both are considered invasive. Classed as noxious weeds But if what you got is edible, you have a fine survival crop.

The Chinese yam is completely legal in my state at present.

How about Jerusalem Artichokes & daylilies ?
 
I just purchased what I think are chinese yams. They were called ''Fresh Iron Nagaimo Chinese Mountain Yams 25 Oz'' But they do look like chinese yams and I will these also. Starting from an actual yam is supposed to yield faster than from a small bulbil , A Chinese yam bulbil typically grows to be between 0.7 and 3 centimeters long, with most being under 2 centimeters in size

These can maybe grow in zone 7 and are definitely good for zone 8-9.
