seeds I am new to indoor seed starting.

The last garden i had i grew outside from seed. Now i am into peppers and want the best pepper quality and yield i can get here in Utah, which means i must start seeds inside. I have the jiffy seed starting green house kit. What i am curious about is lights. Right now my job dropped my pay by $1000 a month and i have 3 kids and 2 house payments so needless to say i am trying to find things around the house to use instead of buying anything. My question about lights is "would a Halogen light work for growing?" Just until middle may atleast?

No light until they sprout. Then how about a sunny window? It works for "house plants"; it will work for a month or so on your Capsicum. Cheers.

Im using a compact fluorescent light bulb on seedlings that sprout seems to stop them from getting leggy. I have them in a south window but right now not enough light with all these storms that keep coming. I live in Utah and it wont be warm for 2-3 more weeks. Ill make it work some how. LOL still upset i couldn't get more pepper seeds to start this year. Right now i have : Grand bell peppers, Hungarian hot wax, Sweet banana, Serrano, Cascabella, Bhut Jolokia, White Habanero, and Cayenne. Good enough start i guess but i want to get in to making hot sauces and bbq sauces :). Good luck every one

Do you have an east or west window? They will work as well. Some times the weather comes during the day and mornings and afternoons have more direct sun. Just get them the best light you can, naturally.

A cheap 2 tube shop light works fine for seed starts IMO. Of course, the better the light, the stronger and bigger the seedlings are when you 1st put them out. Starting seeds in January helps too. :) Quality Lithonia Light
