About a month ago, I went and caught a movie at the local theater, the Jupiter 18. Save for the 5 years I lived away from here, it was my theater of choice to go catch a movie, since it was so close to where I lived, and I saw quite a lot there over the years. This last visit a month ago, I was stunned to see how badly the site got, so much so, I ended up writing a scathingly honest comment about it online. Here's the comment I left:
"I'm sadly disappointed by the state of this theater. Having lived in Jupiter since 1994, I went to this theater all throughout high school, and saw a ton of awesome movies there: Forrest Gump, the Lion King, Braveheart, the Matrix trilogy, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Star Wars re-releases and prequels, and the list goes on. However, with my most recent movie experience there tonight, calling the Jupiter 18 a shadow of its former self would be an improvement over its current state. The concessions area is identical to what it was when the theater was owned by Regal, then Cobb, and Paragon, upon purchasing the location, must've apparently decided to cut the concessions menu options in half. The theater seats are still the same ones that I remember from 15 years back, and the air inside the theater I was sitting in smelled stale and musty, as if the AC hadn't been turned on in almost as long as the seats had been there, and the seats definitely weren't leather, nor were they reclining. And the renovations spoken of on the theater's site, as well as in previous comments are utterly absent, as I couldn't see a single sign of renovation in the theater at all. If they want a nickel's worth of free advice, it would be this: Bite the bullet & close the whole theater down for a month or two, renovate it all in one shot, then re-open it. Otherwise, this location will die a slow, lingering death, while everyone goes to the Cobb at Downtown Gardens."
On my way back from the Post Office today, I stopped at the shopping center the theater was at to grab some lunch, and discovered the theater was bought out and was closed down. I checked the website listed on the marquee, and discovered that the theater was being closed down for a few months because the new owners (Cinepolis) were renovating the location from stem to stern, and would be doing a grand re-opening later this year. So either it was a big coincidence that I left the comment a month ago or somebody read at the company my comment and took heed (that or saw a heck of an opportunity). I checked the Cinepolis website as well, and really liked what I saw. If the people who run this company do the Jupiter 18 the same way, I'd be only too happy to go back to it, and not the Cobb theater further down the road.
