I need some Kefir grains

No idea where to put this so I figured here would be the best place. At least a few folks will know what I'm talking about I hope.

I found a lady on the web who sells dried ones but she only takes cash and that kind of bugs me. Anybody here have any for sale or know a place I can get some?

Thanks.

I would not buy dried kefir grains, not when you could get healthy live ones. i bought some from a lady a year or so ago. try to google kefirlady.com. I belive she is in Ohio or some where like that. They are super good people to deal with. She should have some live healthy grains. If not, let me know.

rmardis, pretty sure we're talking about the same lady. She discovered she can send the grains dry so that's how she does it. However I believe she still sells the wet ones. She said just drop them in milk, leave at room temp and bingo! Thanks.

After recently learning more about kefir, and being motivated by rmardis using the grains in his ferments, I've been considering growing some grains myself.
But since I've never drank kefir before,... I don't know if it would be worth the time and effort involved just to get the grains required for my fermenting projects.
Any thoughts?

I like the taste of kefir, plus all the health benefits. I will ferment mine every 24 or 48 hours. If you have read all of Doms stuff on kefir, you have it all. Great site for all the info you need and crazy, which is a plus :-) I will drank mine for months, than take a month or 2 break. Just like anything else fermenting, the fridge will slow it down, putting your grains in the freezer will pause it. I have some in the fridge and freezer. Your grains will keep on growing and growing. CM, if you want some grains i will send you some Bro. Just send me a SASE. you have helped me out a lot. the taste, just depends on how long you ferment. 24, a mild tatse like plain yogurt, 48 more sour. I have used mine making bread, sour cream and all that. since i do not get to Amish country alot for good raw milk. I used 2% pasturized from the store and it is fine. It is also great for smoothies

I would trust what she says about kefir. She has tons of knowledge on kefir. Plus, she uses goats milk and used to be very organic. I would buy from her. I have in the past and would again, but once you start making your own kefir, it just keeps on growing and growing. As for Dom's, never bought from him. However, if you wanna learn about kefir, best site to go too. have fun

Thanks rmardis.

I'm not real sure about drinking the stuff so I'm glad to hear freezing will put a hold on it. I'll be sure to update this thread with anything new that happens.

Thanks to all for the info.
