I seriously don't know how you guys live here. I just watched a show called I'm Alive on the National Geographic Channel. A guy was walking down a street in a caravan park (known as a trailer park in the U.S.), and there was a feral cat bothering what he thought was a lizard. He decided to pick up the "lizard" to help it get away, and it bit him five times. Turns out it was a Death Adder. He was an hour from real medical attention and didn't receive the anti-venom for two hours. Somehow, after five days in a coma he survived!:shocked:
 
LOL - reminds me of when I was camping and woke up with a King Brown coiled on my chest......that was N.S.W too. I'm seeing a pattern.
 
first thing I thought was 'I'm 3 hours in a fast car from the nearest Dr.'....amazing how calm you can be when you have to.
It sensed me wake up and just uncurled itself and slowly headed off.
 
im in NSW... I get red belly blacks, king browns- snakes, & blue tounge and frillneck lizards, a heap more that dont come to mine .... IN MY BACK YARD !

These two are the worst IMO.

did mine in a winter soup style, some new potatos, green beans & chicken stock. Very tasty in a light gamey way.

Was disappointed with the tanning though - thought a red belly would make a great belt but I never got it worked out.
 
That's it guys i'm going to hunt some snakes over the summer, oh the fun that could be had. Makes me wish i had kept that 25 foot red belly i caught....
 
Soooo glad I don't live anywhere near there!

Bent, we should start calling you the snake whisperer. :lol: I think if that had been me I would have passed out from fear! Then woken up to find my drawers had been soiled.
 
Strange thing is (unless your a women) you tend to stay still for a millisecond before you spoil your underware!

ON a serious note: heres a goanna stalking us when we were camping/ hunting the other week. The thing was not shy ! We were just sittin havin a beer. Just finished a BBQ and this guy shows up for his share !


We were thinking about cookin him.... but man that skin is alot of work, and the ticks are no fun, but they taste good ! ;)
 
I suppose he's poisonous too, right?

My God, with everything running around you that can kill, injure or maim you down there, I wouldn't leave the house without some serious firepower.
 
hes not venomous... hes worse - full of really bad and carry parasites and bacteria in there mouth that will kill ya !~ its how they bring down there prey. They take a small bite into say a kangaroo leg. The Roo hops away only days later to die a horrible death from these micro killers..... only to have the Goanna following/tracking you the whole time, waiting for you to drop so he can EAT YA !.... these things are just little stalking dinosaurs really.
 
I'm sitting here scared sh*tless now. I have always wanted to visit/explore that area, but now..........not so sure. Are all of those dangerous animals protected from being killed? I mean, if you were camping and saw one could you shoot it to protect yourself?
 
Oh yeah don't mess with a Goanna, if one comes at ya lay down on the ground otherwise he will think that you are are a tree and piss on you. :rofl: No really lay down otherwise you will surely be mauled to all buggery!!

Edit: Shoot the crap outta it as long as no-one is watching. As long as you wish to eat it ;)

Edit: ooo ooooo while im at it if you do it one it makes you STINK! The oils in it comes through your skin.
