Impulse Buying...Pepper Plants...

I had a moment of weakness today when I visited the local Grange Co Op.  I had planned on merely walking through the nursery and looking at the myriad of plants they had for sale, but, ended up walking out with a 6-pack of Jimmy Nardellos, something called a Mariachi Hot Pepper, 1 Long Red Cayenne, 1 Zucchini, and 1 Regal Cucumber for pickling.  All in all, I'd say I showed marvelous restraint!  What's your worst occasion for impulse buying of pepper plants?

Well mines not so much plants,  but seeds!!!  I personally wouldn't grow a plant that I or a friend didn't raise from seed.  I'm weird like that

Seeds as well here^
I've already bought many seeds so far that I'm too late to start for now - but I want them for next year... I COULD just buy them later! but I WANT them now :D

Same here. People make fun of me and call me a doomsday prepper . The truth is i will be ready to supply sauces and powders for all and that would be it!!!

You will never regret Jimmy Nardello.

Haha did you see the episode where they used chili powder to make their own pepper spray?

Guilty!

After reading this thread:  http://thehotpepper.com/topic/46805-dragon-cayenne/
I ran onto this fellow at the Box Store.  He looked unusually well branched and bushy (so many of the plants are tall and weedy) so I caved.  At $2 a pop, it's all too easy to justify "Just one more plant..."  :)

I don't buy plants anymore, all I get are Aphids,Spider Mites,Broad Mites etc. from nursery plants.
This year most of their plants look like they have a virus -crinkled leaves, black on leaves etc.
I'll never buy another $4.00 super from them either.
Cayenne looking pods instead of Bhuts , Fatalii instead of Scorpions , Mystery peppers instead of what the label says.
They say they will replace them but don't...

It's not a matter of customers changing taqs,I only buy stuff off the delivery truck when they unload at the nursery.

It's the growers, they are either using bunk seed suppliers or like getting super hot prices for whatever seeds they decide to grow.

Oh I hear you! Last year I bought six plants from my local nursery that were supposed to be Trinidad Scorpion. I have limited space, so dedicating space for six plants was a big deal. I was so excited at first, the plants grew really vigorously and starting putting out lots of pods. But I soon noticed that the pods were cayenne like, so I ate one that was green and it was barely hot. I went back to the nursery and they were like "yeah, we dont know what happened..." They gave me a credit for the cost of the plants, but that was of little use, this was the first week of July last year. I was so disappointed, I felt like I had been punched in the stomach.

Choco hand grenade is da bomb. :drooling:
Got 1 big fat pod on my OW almost ready (week or so) to pluck.
Tasty buggers.

As my man cave is full of pepper plants, and still a week or so till plant-out---and a fishing box full of seeds waiting on planting, I am restraining myself from interesting plants and seeds for this season.

My OW for winter next will be cut back to 4 large, and likely a dozen small Quasi-bonchi's.

I am narrowing down what I want to grow, and (hopefully) will resist the urge to buy any and all interesting plants I happen to walk by.

Last spring, it was a couple Medusa types at the local store, which now have useless pods allovertheplace. I can't bring myself to kill them, but will be planting out and letting nature take it's course.
