chinense Indian Bhut Jolokia vs N.A. Bhut Jolokia

A friend recently dropped off five bhuts that he grew from seed he brought back from India.  He bought fresh pods at a market in Jorhat apparently from some old man pushing a cart full of them.  He was very excited when he sent me the pictures.  The pods were the largest I've ever seen so I was quite excited too.  He's not much of a gardener and I was quite surprised when he called me to see if I wanted the plants.  I had forgotten all about it.  Well the plants were pretty sickly looking, but the pods, the pods were about half again as big as any I have grown.  Until now I thought a three inch ghost was large.  That would be the smallest that these plants have.  The largest is almost four and a half inches long.  It is longer than my hand is wide.  So my question is, is there a difference in seed stock from India vs. seeds from North America or are these some weird variant or are my own plants just producing small pods?

Quick picture for reference.  Pic is big so I'll just put the link http://i.imgur.com/YYKnKUB.jpg http://i.imgur.com/QPhHBzp.jpg

I will say the majority of the Bhut Jolokia I have grown over the last three seasons have mostly been four inch pods or longer; seeds from Jim Duffy and from Judy (pepperlover).
