Interspecific hybrids

Hi, I'm Royce from South Africa and I've been growing peppers for a few years now. I've been really loving the baccatums and the Chinense BBGs so last year 2020 I decided to try my hand at some hybridizing and thought why not try cross the two species.

I made a friend in Italy who has been growing his baccatum x Chinense for a few generations and it got me excited to get it going.

My 1st interspecific is of Aji Cito x Mamp Black Berrygum. I grew it out this season and was very pleased that it was a successful attempt.

Thank you very much, I've tried a number of pods. Off the 3 plants I grew, most pods had the same taste.

I culled one plant as it was giving small round fruit only, with no seeds.

The 2nd plant with the pods pictured in my post have 2 types of taste. One is very sweet raspberry like sweetness with no/ very little heat and the other is still sweet followed by a typical chinense flavor little bit floral with a strong Capsaicin presence, took me by surprise with the heat, probably couple 100k shu.

I'm saving seed from all the bigger pods which have 1 - 3 seeds generally in each pod, some have nothing. Thankfully the plants are loaded so have a better chance to save more seed.

Good to see it was self-fertile as well, always a good start with the interspecific crosses.

Thank you. My favourites are bbgs and Baccatums so I had to do a cross with the 2. Anything could happen in F2 though. It's going to be fun growing out future generations
