Is "capsicum" an acceptable code word for extract in a hot sauce??

According to Dictionary.com

capsicum

[kap-si-kuh m]

noun 1. any plant of the genus Capsicum, of the nightshade family, as C. annuum, the common pepper of the garden, occurring in many varieties.
2. the fruit of such a plant or some preparation of it, used as a condiment and intestinal stimulant.

So since Extract is a preparation of the fruit of such a plant it would likely qualify as capsicum for the purpose of labeling of a hot sauce.

Well sure that makes sense. You can list many ingredients this way. Vanilla extract can be vanilla or vanilla flavor whatever.

The question is, is that acceptable or responsible since it is also used as wording for mild peppers, and extract is an extreme preparation. ;)
Many Australian sauces say Capsicum for red bells.

Good point but the website that sells it clearly states in the description :

This one is gonna hurt ya. The sauce is made with extract, so the burn will last longer than you will.

Ingredients: Distilled Vinegar, Red Habanero Peppers, Capsicum, Xanthan Gum.

So they do make it pretty clear it is an extract sauce (unless it was purchased elsewhere that doesn't mention it !)

I know we mentioned that earlier. :) It's not on the bottle.

I also linked to where I was put out of commission for 4 hours also due to this wording. Extract is no joke.

Technically correct use of the term capsicum.
Until the rules are changed, you gotta cover your six.

In this case, with that label, I'm thinking extract all the way, baby.
"Not that there's anything wrong with that..."

Extract :
Not in my house, not on my food.
Not in my mouth, no way Dude!

BUt if your buying a bottle of sauce not knowing what is in it - and all you have to go by is

Sauce so Hot it will make your pussy wet !
on the label and a listing of just Habanero peppers and capsicum in the ingredients - then either it is not that hot of a sauce or it has something other than the habanero's making it hotter (which would make one think it has extract or other superhot peppers)  and if it was other hotter fresh peppers they'd be listing them on the label to justify the price

So I'd either ask or look for more info before purchasing and eating it - cause I'm not paying $12.99 for a 5 ounce bottle of Habanero sauce !
