• If you can't find a "Hot" category that fits, post it here!

Is there a sauce maker in the STATES that can give the guys in Australia a run for their money?

With the hot sauce market expanding (exploding?), that can only mean more flavor and heat options for us heat lovers.

The issue might be how to keep up to date on what's good and what's great.

Thank goodnes there are sites like this with reviewers to let us know what's going on with some of the new hot sauces coming onto the market.

Market exposure and advertising really help to get the message out there, and that is one of Neil Smith's (THSC) strengths.

Neil is a legend in the Chile Head community, and fully acknowledges that a lot of his exposure came from Youtube, which allows free advertising, of a sort, 24/7/365.

So the trick for a lot of the newer hot sauce companies is to get their product out to the rest of us, at least to the point where we are aware of it.

I'm sure that there are sensational north american hot sauce makers, but we just might have to look a little harder for them, until they can get their brands recognized, and get the kind of market following that Neil Smith has so successfully managed to do.

+1 dvg. Couldnt have said it any better.
Cappy, if you dont mind, please dont EVER post in a thread that I have started. I would appreciate it.

DVG, kinda going off of what you were saying....Anyone that knows Neil knows that YouTube and word-of-mouth is just about the only advertising he uses. Its brilliant! Hell, it's free advertising, ya know? But that's a great way to get your product out there. To sell more, advertise and get product pumped into the public. If people like it, they'll let ya know, right?
I will say this AGAIN, I am not knocking ANY hot sauce....PERIOD. I am just making a generalization that a lot of great sauces come from Australia. And to ME, it seems like, as a WHOLE, the better sauces come from Australia. Thats not to say that there are no good sauces here, or ever will be. I am merely stating MY opinion. And hell, I figured it would just be people talking about different sauces, or some sauce makers saying "Hey, you should try mine!"
THIS THREAD WAS ONLY MEANT TO BE A CONVERSATION TOPIC!

So you can dish it out in my thread but cannot take the heat in yours? I'll post whenever I want and especially when I see derogatory threads started by you. Why would we ever want a reviewer that is single-minded just to hype sauces from only their friends, unless of course you are just looking for free handouts yet again. I would suggest that if you ever get a bottle of my sauce you not try it because your credibility is totally worthless. Enough people have tried my sauce that I don't need you, keep sending your money overseas. Actually thanks for the free advertising you keep bringing more attention to my Brain Strain and the many other great hot sauces made by THP members here in the good ol' USA. Keep it up.

????

Not sure what's going on but either way. Loved Skobiyan. Always wanted to try SL's sauces as many have said they are great.

Hey Pooper. I know you've tried and liked Neil's sauces as well as Scorpion Chilli's, but what OTHER Australian sauce makers have you tried? Hopefully it's more than just those two to say that all the really good ones come from Australia. By the way, I think you do a good job reviewing products and I'm not trying to "stir the pot." Those are the only 2 that I'VE seen you review (and they sound good), but you should try LOTS of different sauces before making a statement like that if you want people to listen to what you have to say about hot sauce. You seem like a good guy and I don't think you were trying to hit a nerve like you did when you started this thread.
Cheers

I can understand if I started the thread "ALL American sauces SUCK!" Nope. Was just a generalized conversation topic meant to get people to talk about the difference in hot sauces between different countries.
Not saying this, Mojo, to argue...just saying it.....Why does it matter how many sauces I have had? I dont know that there is anyone out there that has had every sauce thats ever been made. Just with the sauces that I have had, like I have stated before, it seems like MORE good sauces come from Australia then here in the States. That's a statement from MY experience. Am I the most qualified person out there that has tried the most sauces? Nope. Not even close. Again, my statements are ONLY from MY experiences. Like them or not, take them or leave them. They are not a comparison to others experiences.
True, the only "mainstream" Australian sauces that I have tried are the ones from Neil and Scorpion. What sparked my whole thought process on this thread was watching Neil's latest review on Alpha's Pain2 sauce. It looks SOOOOOO good! Didnt really know a whole lot about Alpha, so I looked up his profile, and saw that he is from Australia. I was like "DAMN!!! Another one in Australia!" So, I started this thread. Figured maybe someone would make suggestions on US made sauces that kicked ass. Figured a couple people would say "HEY, you need to try MY sauce!" Or "try THIS sauce!" Instead, it looks like most people want to find my thread offensive, instead of just a conversation topic.
I meant well all, whether you realize that, or not. I HAD some "other" things typed up that I dont think people would like. I will TRY to say it a little nicer...anyone that knows me knows that I dont care one bit what people think of me. My "sauce reviews" are meant to just screw around and let people see another person's view on a particular sauce. I have done close to 20 videos, and not even half of those are of sauces that were free. Take Alpha's sauce for example...I saw Neil's video, Pain2 looked freakin AWESOME, so I pm'd him and told him that the next time he has some made, I would like to buy some. Yes, BUY some. Just because I do a video doesnt mean that the sauce was free.
I guess everyone thinks THEIR sauce is the best, and thinks that this thread was meant to be a pissing contest or some sort of contest. Not even close ya'll.
If there is a mod out there that can erase this thread, please do so. We dont need anything else stirred up for no good reason.
Thanks all.

True, I do make my own. I like my sauce, but still pull out OTHER'S sauces before I'll use my own. I dunno, I guess Im kinda weird like that. I think Neil is the same way....doesn't even review his own sauces.
And again, this thread isnt to talk crap to US sauce makers/sellers. (Well, ANY sauce makers really.) It just seems like the Aussie's, as a whole, make a better sauce.

BASTARD'S!!! lol j/k

Just for conversation's sake, does anyone know where one could get xantham gum at?

If you have a Whole Foods near you, they would either have it or can get it in.

Hi

I have bought quite a few American sauces to sell on my website, some good some bad. I haven't tried anyones from THP but have noticed with a lot of the bigger sauce companies over there have quite a few additives and that salt is heavily used which can sometimes overpower the taste. This is my opinion only,on what I have tried. I don't want to get involved in any "fights" but just thought I'd mention that perhaps that is one of the differences? I do however really like Marie Sharps Green Habanero sauce, Iguana Deuce gold and a couple of CaJohn's sauces. None of these have salt high up on the list and they also don't contain extract which I stay away from.

God we have it good over here hehehehe

Have you ever tried Ol' Man Stillmanz Devils tongue Jerk sauce? Thats one of my favorites, I doubt theres anything else that has the same taste out there (in Aus or USA)

I guess for an Aussie sauce maker to be successful he or she would have to do an outstanding job just to survive/break even. The markets pretty small over here compared to the States, which in turns makes our few choices look pretty damn good vs the overwhelmingly large selection of sauces in the states.

maybe lol

People like Niel, stillmanz, alpha, Marcel etc are so freaking passionate about what they do and their food, none of the great sauces over here come from large corporations, just people that have dedicated an absolutely enormous amount of time/passion into their sauce making :)

And no I'm not saying we are better or anything like that, just we have a different market and different tastes/cultures that might in tern breed a different end product at times lol

Either way  have a good weekend

I think its a strange thread as well. Ever made a statement that was totally meant to be innocent, but so many people got offended by it?
Cheese and rice!!!

ooh and have you ever tried guar gum as a thickener? health food shops have it. It has zero taste, a little goes a looooong way and its a natural plant extract instead of an animal thingie.

Timmmy,
What are you referring to as "animal thingie" ?

I'm not understanding to what you are talking about. Thank you for explaining.

sl

Sorry SL,

I wasn't thinking too hard during that last post. I was referring to gelatin which is derived from animal skin but thats a bit off the subject lol But I have previously added gelatin in very small amounts to sauces before :)

I think Guar gum's really good in dairy based recipes especially when you intend to freeze them as it inhibits crystals forming in the product. I'm yet to use it in an actual sauce but I intend to this season.

:) Sorry about that I'm having a nice relaxing weekend that involves beer :) Not a good mix while posting lol
