Is this a Galapagoense

Hi,

First time growing this plant and i am not sure if the seeds were genuine. I bought the seeds from ebay - that was the only place i could find other than a shop in US who were asking for 20$ postage!

Anyway, i keep looking at the images on google and my plant doesnt really look like them. The leaves though have a lovely scent which i havent seen on any other chilli. The plant is two months old, around 2 feets and no pods appeared yet. Looks quite funky, has a clumsy appearance.

I searched the forum but galapagoense seem to appear only in the grow lists - no photos :/

Hello..doesn't look like one ..stems are VERY hairy  which is one of it's main characteristics,here's a few of my
plants from last yr.One piece of  advise "be wary of people who sell hard to get wilds on Ebay"

I  want to say  that one seller who is a member here & has offered Galalagoense seeds for sale  in the recent past.

Semillas La Palma...he is found in the vendor section also.
he is top notch & his seeds are genuine is ,based out of Spain...prices very reasonable,email  & ask
he may have seeds yet...doesn't hurt to ask...has other wilds on his web site..that being said...
there here are 2 kinds of wild galap seeds for sale one is what I call regular ..stems

not furry....& peppers are not  round..
I grew it 2 yrs ago ..if I recall it's <an inch..or so...wonder if that's what the member has growing?

I'm growing Peter/SLP's "Galapagoense Long" currently and that doesn't look quite right for that either.  For one thing, both mine forked fairly early.  I'll take a closer look at mine next time I have the chance - they're not at my house anymore - and maybe I can provide better feedback.  The SLP Galapagoense may be a nice plant in its own right, but it is certainly a much different plant than Wiri Wiri's plants, which are what is typically meant by Galapagoense.
 
Ukchilli - I am intrigued by two things about your plant, it's tendency to grow up tall and straight, with no forking yet and only now starting to show low lateral branching and also the smell you reference.  Both those are characteristics of many wild varieties.  I'm curious to see how it develops.

Many thanks for all responses! I have ordered a pack of seeds from semillas (thanks wiriwiri)... i am guessing a bit late to plant but there s no harm.

With regards to the plant i am growing, i will keep you all posted. When (or if) it flowers/fruits, i will post some photos here.

CaneDog - the smell is really interesting, it actually reminds me fresh wiri wiri, the first burst of smell when you cut one ripe fruit...

Wait until it flowers and post a photo. It's fairly easy to ID wild plants but when they are grown indoors with just ambient lighting you get larger leaves and the monopodial growth that it is exhibiting.

Can you link the ebay page or the seller? We might be able to see what else they are growing and have a better chance at guessing.

Getting back to your original question...no,it is not C.galapagoense. If I were guessing I would say C.chacoense.

The pictures he has are different actually either the seller mixed up or is a fake seller.

A quick update;

- its now 1.2m tall
- the peppery smell of the leaves is gone
- got the first flower

Not sure what it is but quite curious )

Plant's looking great, like it's ready to start getting bushy.  I'm thinking c. chacoense as guessed earlier was the right call.
 
It actually looks extremely similar the ají putaparió on my deck, yours just a few weeks ahead in development.

I seriously did let alone chillie i dont think ive seen such leggy beans to be honest. I spotted a tiny fruit today - so loooking forward to see what it s going to look like i hope it was worth the wait haha

Another update - a few fruits appeared as expected.

They are literally 4-5mm ie 1/8. Quite dark colour but there is a little greenish colour near the bottom of the fruit.

I took a closer photo of the flower as well.

The plant is the same size, no changes since the last time.

Does it look familiar to anyone?

I know this is a dead topic but found it again while searching topics on wilds. After seeing more photos I would like to take back my guess of C.chacoense. The blue anthers indicate it is annuum var.glabriusculum. They would be yellow if C.chacoense and also they would have longer teeth on the calyces. Hope this helps the OP or anyone else stumbling across this thread.
