Is this coffee grinder okay?

I bought this coffee grinder to make powder but when I opened the box it wasn't what I expected. It just has two blades that are 1/2 inch above the bottom of the grinder. Just wondering if this will work?

Thats close to what I use and I've had no problems. You just might have to hold it at an agle for a bit sometimes to get things flowing good

Yeah, I got a Braun and a MrCoffee that are pretty much the same blade-type grinders. One's for coffee, the other is just for chiles and spices.

(although, chipotle coffee is pretty cool)

It helps to use smaller pieces, like 1/4" to start off with.

If you're grinding really hard thick-walled stuff like chipotles, then I break up as small as I can first too so I don't break the dern thing.

Oh, very important...

1. If grinding superhots, ya may want to use a mask anyways and/or do it outside...

2. After grinding, give the top a good tap to settle the residue...then wait a few more seconds for the dust to settle or you'll get a face-full of pain. ;)

It looks like it will do the trick, but for me personally, I like my Magic Bullet. Absolutely no pepper dust escapes out of the Magic Bullet, unlike the coffee grinder I started with and I get powder as fine as baby powder.

nice yea should do fine just dont grind more that 25s ever couple of minutes and you wont burn the spice/burn out the grinder.

Still wondering about keeping the powder. I can't find and silica gel packs around and I can't just throw rice in with the powder, can I? I also heard that rice can give back all its moisture all at once when saturated.

Just use ziplock freezer bags and store them in a cool dark place. I have some powders that have been stored like this for about a year now without any clumping.

What about the powder you currently use for food?

I started out using old spice shaker bottles that I had laying around. You can also find some that will work at Walmart. However, I eventually bought a bunch of shaker bottles from SKS bottles: http://www.sks-bottle.com/SpiceBottles.html

Do you have a Kohl's store near by you? The reason I ask is because they sell Magic Bullets there for around $48. I mention this because, I had a coffee grinder that I tried using for my peppers and let me tell you, once you get a snot-full of super hot pepper dust, you'll understand why I wanted a sealed grinder.

I actually have one but bought the grinder because I thought it would have different blades. Will it affect food taste afterwards with thte bullet?

I picked up a small blade coffee grinder today, I love it I now have a 100gms of powder after my first go a dehydrating chillies.

Just made this Chipotle Meco & Japanese Chile powder today with my 25-y.o. Braun grinder...mmmm.

Those are probably the hardest chiles to grind, they're like rocks. I break 'em up by hand as much a possible first, but it gets 'er done.

The smell and flavor is unreal.
