Isolating flowers using glue

I've done this the last couple of years (heard about it on here from Browning) and it works excellently as long as it doesn't rain. If you grow in containers (which I don't) it would be great because you can move them out of the rain. But growing in a garden, you have to keep an eye on the next few days forecast. Thank you for providing this link!

Primarily, I plan on trying on my potted up plants.
I thought a flower bud had to open in order to be pollinated?
