It's never too early to get started!

Sooo... 2022 season is over and most of my 2023 plants are already there - no reason not to start a new thread already! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

See my previous glog... https://thehotpepper.com/threads/2022-too-early-to-get-started.75362/

While all my current plants are technically overwinterers, only a couple have grown through the 2022 season and are considered interesting enough to keep for next seasons grow.

Let's start with the famous Schneider farms SB plant, which will be going into it's third season in 2023. It currently doesn't look all that nice but that was also the case during the winter of 2021 so no worries here...

And then there's the Humble Servants Homestead (HSH) SB, which was also elected to stay for next season...

A small photo update...

The overwintered Schneider Farms not looking very good. It should be flushing out by now but it isn't. Not sure if it will make it...

I had written a whole bunch of comments about all these varieties but because of something dumb that I did, I lost it all ๐Ÿคฌ and I don't feel like retyping it all, at least not now, so here you go... ๐Ÿ™„

Cool to see your 7 Pot Burgundy is growing well! Since your OW Schneider Farms seems to be struggling, you could take the opportunity to repot it in fresh soil. Maybe it would help him "wake up"?

I think the burgundy is doing fine despite some malformed leaves. The newly formed young leaves seem to look normal now.

The schneider had fresh soil when I took it inside in the fall of 2022. It's been on the floor close to the window in our veranda where it gets the most light but it's also the coldest place. I have moved it to a warmer place, we'll see how it reacts...

Quick overview of my plants...

I took all of the small seedlings that were still in the propagator out and put them with the other young plants.

The overwintered seedlings that were cut back because of the aphids are really starting to grow out again now and are even already starting to produce flower buds. Seems like this method works great to have young plants ready in spring... start the seeds somewhere in September/October and cut them back entirely for overwintering when they already have a strong trunk.

If I can count correctly, these are 17 plants in total. There's no way I can let them all grow out to full sized plants. Either I will have to select the most desired ones and kill off the others like I did last year, or I let those plants that I want for production grow as they please and keep the remaining plants in smaller pots and try to keep the size down. I would like to go for the second option this time. But I may need a good tutorial about properly keeping the plants small while still having them produce some fruits. Doesn't have to be a full harvest.
Any advice is welcomed!

Here's the overwintered schneider farms SB... still looking ugly but there's hope, it looks like it is starting to grow again!

For comparison, this is what the Schneider Farms SB looked like almost exactly a year ago... quite a difference I would say... ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Was going through my photo archives and found a picture of my very first chili plants. I was still a noob back then, grew them in way too small pots with too little light so the plants became quite leggy. I did get some fruits from them though, I believe these were (or at least one of them was) yellow cayenne.

Back then I was still a citrus grower as you may notice. These were my first steps in eliminating citrus in favor of chili ๐Ÿ˜

I'm very satisfied with the way my plants are doing right now. All the young plants are repotted and now in a proper 1 liter pot.

Family overview...

Rear left corner larger pots: Schneider farms scotch bonnet, 7pot brain strain yellow and KSLS. Both the SB and 7pot are already growing flower buds...

Rear larger pots: KSLS and SB7J. In front of the larger KSLS are the KSLS and KSPS from Jim Kingman (FB). Next to the KSPS is the 7pot Burgundy from Bou. In front of the KSLS and KSPS is the SB HSH "Scotchie Baby" (yes, I can use abbreviations too! ๐Ÿ˜œ).

Front left Scotch Brains, front right Scotch Brains 7pot pheno (but I guess you could read that just fine from the labels ๐Ÿ˜). To the rear of the Scotch Brains is the KSSR that I topped a week ago to make it branch out...

...and last but not least... the tiny little San Juan Tsile Pueblo pepper that is already in flowering stage! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ (and no, I'm not going to remove the flower buds...)

About the old Schneider farms SB... I finally decided to give the plant up. It's full with pests it appears so it had to go outside. If it manages to stay alive I will keep growing it, but it's still a bit early in the season so it will likely die if temperatures go too low...

Just imagine all the fruit you will have in a couple of months!
I expect to have a lot of peppers that I won't even be able to handle! ๐Ÿคช But first I'll have to find some room for them to grow in... they still all fit on the top of the fridge right now but that will soon change...

Your plants are looking great! ๐Ÿ‘Œ
Thanks, thought so too ๐Ÿ˜
