seed-plant-vendors Jimmy Pickles and the bad seeds 🥒

I had ordered seeds of 11 different varieties from Jimmy Pickles on August 23, 2024. Then I had to remind him on October 04, 2024, November 18, 2024, November 30, 2024, and December 17, 2024. Finally, after 101 days (!), he shipped them on January 2, 2025 with a messed-up address, but thankfully, the seeds were delivered to the correct address on January 15, 2025. He did not include the ordered isolated Red Primotalii seeds, actually the main reason I was ordering from him. Also, the Habanada seeds contained a piece of dried fruit that was quite hot (Habanada is a heatless variety). MA Warthog Red, a Capsicum chinense that is a contender for the hottest pepper in the world, were the only seeds that I actually planted, but they turned out to be a Capsicum annuum! (Does anybody know, which variety? I have discarded all but one.)

It seems that I am not alone, many people have recently complained about receiving annuums and even baccatums instead of the ordered (superhot) chinenses. See here for a German thread:

https://chiliforum.hot-pain.de/thre...t-test-2025-superhots-oder-nur-paprika.44796/ (includes an ongoing experiment, which chinenses are actually annuums or baccatums...)

Also, there are quite a few posts on Instagram

as well as on Reddit

Who else got pickled?🥒 How long did you have to wait? Did he reach out to you about possible mix-ups? What are your most surprising plants?

I am the guy who opened the mentioned thread in the german hot-pain forum.

Last year I ordered the JP Piranha Red from Jimmy Pickles. It take really long and answer to my requests were always he is so busy, doing his best, drinking coffee the handle a long day...😵‍💫
So I withdrawed the PayPal payment and got my money back. Should have leave it as it was. He wrote me on FB and meant the address on the envelope was wrong, his mistake. A few days later I received the seeds and of course sent him back the money.

To cut a long story short, here is my JP Piranha Red 😭

I would have scraped it long ago. But my six years old daughter took care about the plant at her window. Normally I am growing only superhots.

I took Jimmy Pickles to task this time on Instagram. He excused and meant that was the fault of his suppliers. He will send me many seeds as compensation.

Why are they looking all nearly similar and so big? 🤔

Red pepper flakes in the Fatalii bag? 🤔

Currently I am trying to germinate a few seeds of all variants. If it will be not so time consuming, I will grow them in small cups in my Growbox.

if you watch the hulu documentairy "the spicy world of pepperpeople" you find a visit to his house. Everything is send from the house. with all due respect this does not look like an organized setup for storing and sending seeds without the risk of messing stuff up.

so i keep clear of this guy.

While not having done anything with this biz personally Your 1st, 2nd and 3rd red flags were having to "Remind" the company about your seriously late order. Personally, if for any reason I have to repeatedly remind a company about an order, no really, if I don't receive my order in a timely fashion I ask for a reason and if it's honest I wait a bit longer, than cancel order for refund. There are alot of great Hot Pepper seed peddlers out there. My suggestion would be to ask on this site for recommendations.

lol NJ i thought the same thing when i saw the title, especially in the new home screen here where i didn't know what forum category it was in.

my favourite "and the" band would have to be george thorogood and the destroyers

A great band indeed. Reminds me of the movie 'Christine'.

The first time I saw GWAR (not live, just on video) I thought a decent tribute band might be called "Creepy Crawly and the Farting Barbarians" or something like that. 🤣

Please can we stay on topic and not blame the victims (always a bad move...)? I had my reasons - I actually went a bit overboard this season and received seeds from 19 trustful sources. I was actually spreading my risks by getting some varieties from multiple sources. And spreading it did...
