Just a very quick & Easy Question

Hi Everyone,

I'll be starting my seeds germinating tomorrow...do I have to have the lights shining down on the soil as the seeds germinate? Or is the light not necessary until after the seedlings emerge?

Thanks!

No light is needed until the seedlings emerge. That being said, I turn my lights on a few days before I expect them to emerge so they get good bright light right from the start.

Edit: Oh, I forgot, some people count on the lights to keep the seeds warm enough to germinate. I don't, but some people do.

The seeds are covered with dirt, right? Dirt doesn't let light, through, right? Unless, like Pamela says, you are using the lights as a heating source, they are useless to germination.

But... I've got an idea of how long it will take the seeds to germinate, so a day or two before I expect them to be born, I put the container under the light. I want them to be greeted by photons they understand on their birthday!

Mike
