Kappy's First Grow Log! :D

Hello everyone!

I'm new here to the forums but I have been browsing for a couple months now. I just recently fell in love with the idea of growing peppers but I live in a very limited space, an apartment with 2 cats.

So in order to fulfill my pepper growing need, I set up a little corner in my bedroom just for growing peppers and eventually some other veggies. I currently have 5 of these lights. 2 are over the plants, one is one one wall mounted and the other 2 are on the other wall. For the past 2 months I've only had 3 lights though, I just recently got 2 more.

I had to figure out what would be best for growing indoors for a couple months. I was looking up a lot of info on compact plants and ornamental peppers that are edible as well so I can make them into chili powders. So finally after lots of info searching, here is what is currently growing in my corner:

Sorry for the long links, they are pictures/some info for each pepper I have been gathering over the net if anyone wants to check out the links. I did this for myself so I could click on them and refresh myself with which pepper is what. Anywho, I have pictures taken and they're on my computer but I need to load them up to a site first. So pictures will be posted very soon.

I will keep this log updated with pictures and info probably weekly so that I can look back and see all the progress I've made. Like I said, I'm new to pepper growing, first grow and such, so any advice or criticism is welcome :) Thank you and nice to meet you all!

-Kappy

Thanks Yor! :) Yeah I love the Windowfarm as well, it's really great, I can't wait to make a 2 liter bottle one for my lettuces :)

Ok so time for a new update! I've been away from my garden for about 3 weeks @.@ Was on vacation for the holidays and such. My boyfriend kindly took care of my plants for me, and I'm happy to announce that there were only 3-4 deaths, not too bad :D I had a ton of plants going on so I was expecting about 10 deaths lol. But anywho, I got some some photos of the plants a few hours before I took off on my vacation, and I just grabbed some a few minutes ago. The lights were on for the plants 24/7 o.o and when I got back I was insanely surprised with the growth...

These pictures are the ones I took just before I left.

Ugh looks like I've overloaded my thread again lol, I make multiple replies and it tries to condense them all into one >.< Anywho, one more picture.

So this is a picture of 2 types of peppers supposedly. One plant was suppose to be a Peruvian White Habanero (left) and the other is a Hungarian Wax Pepper (right). Now I realize those hungarian waxes definitely didn't reach their full mature size before picked, but after noticing the "Peruvian White Habanero" plant was giving me not habanero peppers, I saw that they began looking a lot like the Hungarian Hot Waxes. I picked them before my trip because they were getting purple and squishy (both plants) and when I got back they had ripened to that orange color. So clearly, these are not Peruvian White Habaneros, and I'm super dissapointed :( those were the ones I was looking forward to growing the most. So if anyone has any Bullet White Habaneros or the Jelly bean type white habanero seeds for trade, please pm me and we can talk about what seeds I can trade you in return. I really want to grow those white little jelly beans!
DSC02983.jpg

Well that's it for now! I'll update again in a week or so ^^ I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!

Lookin' good Kappy... and the plants are doing well too :P Are all of the ones in the solo cups permanent? Do you transplant them or are you stunting the growth and only going for whatever they can do in those size cups??

Thanks Yorees and 3/5!! :D

Yor, the strawberries died unfortunately :( So when spring comes I'll pick up some more seeds or get some actual plants.

3/5, nope they aren't permanent homes but yeah you could say I'm slightly stunting the growth on some of them for now lol. I was just recently offered some land to garden on for the spring so I'm growing a lot of them to be transplanted outside in the spring now/since I'm doing that I'm curious to see how far some of them can grow in just a solo cup lol.

Keep it up Kappy, the plants are looking good, now you will have to find an outdoor home for some of them and see how big they can get in the ground. I recently got into Hydro growing and after buying a kit off Ebay I realized actually how simple it is to set up, have you ever thought of trying it? I am building a 4 site system tomorrow and will do an instructional thread on it, I am using folgers plastic coffee cans for the pots, we will see how it works...

Thanks Matt! :D Yeah those babies are doing pretty good under what I've got setup :) Not near the norm but hey it works!

I actually just got offered some land though at my boyfriend's house to garden on and about half of these plants will be moved there in the spring :) I'm so excited! Though my setup is effective to get seeds sprout and to get them to flower and set some pods, its not enough lighting to get tons of pods. It will be fantastic to have a decent harvest of peppers this season :D

I actually really would love to get into hydro more. I'm not always around my home so it would be great to have a setup so I don't have to worry about watering and such. Right now I'm actually creating my first real windowfarm (4 columns) with the air pump and everything, and this will be my first time touching anything hydro. I'm going to put 1 pepper plant in the windowfarm, a Mini Bell pepper plant, and I'll be experimenting to see how well it does ^^ If the windowfarm I create goes well though, I'll definitely be looking into some hydro kits and such.

Oh also good idea with the plastic coffee cans ^^ I was actually having the same dilema in a way of what was I going to use as a "net pot" for my windowfarm? I can buy 100 pots for 20 bucks but I was trying to just be really cheap and resourceful, so I wanted to pick something that's laying around that I've already paid for lol. So I crocheted a mesh "net pot" and I'll be testing a few of them out in my windowfarm to see if they work out ^^ They were crocheted using tomato twine/macrame so they're very durable. Good luck with your new hydro setup! I'll be checking in on your new thread to see what's happening :)
