Karoo 2017/2018 glog

New season, new things.
My biggest challenges growing peppers in our climate are heat , drought and birds eating peppers and plants.
Biggest advantages are heat and a longer season and good soil and homemade compost.
So I have devised a plan , an all in one raised beds , drip irrigation, shade net and birdproof pepper patch.

Extensive planning have led to this.

Just found this visitor to my veggie garden on my lunchtime break.
African mountain tortoise.
Smaller one, about 40 cm long and 30 cm high. They are slow , but have a big appetite for anything green.
Good thing I have raised beds.

Always difficult this time of the season , waiting for pods to ripen.

First up my cross Malawi Piquant( Peppedew) x Aji Lemon F1 , decided to take more of the fathers shape , I wonder what colour it will be.

Yellow Jalapeno , first poppers just around the corner . I will let these ripen to check out the colour and then eat the rest green.

I have a lot of new Baccatums that I cannot wait to taste.
Sugar rush peach.

SA looks like a great place to grow peppers, Jacques!
You really have it dialed in.   Great looking grow so far - can't
wait to see how it develops!  That Aji Amarillo is quite a bush,
very true to ahi a. growth habit - big leaves, lots of lateral
branches!!

Good luck heading into Summer!

Thank you Paul,
at the moment my raised beds are a crazy mix of peppers , carrots, radishes , tomatoes and eggplants.
The carrots and radish won't be replaced as I harvest them to make space for the peppers. 40% shadenet/birdnet is up .

I took my two favourite peppers from last season and did a cross.
Malawi piquant (peppadew) X Aji Lemon . This from last season.

The results so far are amazing , excellent fast growing and productive plants.
Big pods that are a good mix of the two peppers , almost a Aji Fantasy pheno.
What do you think will be the final colour?

Hard to say what the colour will be, green doesn't look light enough for a yellow, but it does happen. My bets on Red. Everything looking great (as usual), making me jealous!

Thank you guys .
I can't wait to see some colour.

Still waiting for colour, the most difficult ones to predict are the light coloured pods like white , cream and peach.

Still my favourite plant is one that turned out not to be true so I just call him "This is NOT the road to Amarillo".
It is Baccatum , maybe an Aji Fantacy cream or white or a Sugar rush cream.

Aji valle de canca in the corner , flanked by Not Amarillos.

Nice big Jalapenos.

Hopefully these will turn to Orange and be Amarillos
