Karoo 2018/19 Glog African Adventure

Hi everybody.
Starting early this year . i just can't help myself, first frost hits and all i can think about is germinating a few seeds.

Germination:
In small pots with coco coir/compost 50/50.
In insulated container with heat mat .
Temp 28-30 C.

Seedlings:
Will stay in small pots , fits in trays , easy to move . For about 3 months.
I have a small , wooden grow box/cabinat with cfl lights.

Grow area:
two areas under 40% shadenet/birdproofing .
Biggest area, two one meter high raised beds , filled with 90% pure compost
Second area , large containers partially buried in the ground to keep them cool.

Soil:
germination , 50/50 , cococoir/compost
after that 90% compost with added  ash , spent coffee grounds , fine eggshells etc.
Compost is my own , from garden cuttings , leaves and branches , just left in a hole in the ground for at least 2 years.

No added nutes . The year I am going to experiment with sheep droppings from my Brother-in-law'sfarm. Real 2-5 year old droppings from the shaving shed.

Stay tuned , pics will follow.

Very interesting glog. Incredible to see the various struggles we have, in different parts of the world. I love the fact your abandoned plants survived the winter.

Good to see your harvests starting to come through.

Agree.
I'm going to watch this Glog :)

What a difference a few weeks away can make!
Good to have a holiday , but also good to be away from the peppers for a few weeks. It's hot in mid summer over here , but no heatwaves in the last 5 weeks. Average Temps 30-32 ° C , Today 37 ° C ( 98.6 F ).

I have harvested Paprika , Pimiento de Padron , Guajillo, Jimmy Nardellos and of course Aji Cito and all dry in about 3-5 days in our heat and dry air.

My first ( and very small ) peach Bhut.

Part of the harvest.
large red Thai for sauce and Aji Amarillo.

Man +30c would probably kill me if it was constant like that...especially if you added any humidity of any kind to that. Where I live now +27c and up is getting into the heatwave area, though it has become more and more common the past 10 years or so now.

Just to cool your thoughts alittle it was a balmy -28c this morning when I got up..though we have had it pretty easy so far this winter with minimal amount of time hitting those areas.

Awsome to have some pods though Karoo can't wait to see some new pics of your plants eventually sir!!

Fortunately no humidity , extremely dry so it's not too bad.

Plus side , no dehydrator needed , just cut them and put them outside for three days .

Glad you are safely back home, Jacques.
Always good to step on the home soil!

Those Large Red Thai are awesome pods!

Your temps are similar to here, but I wish we had no humidity. It has been brutal. Around 60 or 70% most of the time.

Nice haul for when you got back home, I hope you had a good holiday.

I received these seeds about 2 years ago from a vendor  in the US with an order of about 10 other Baccatums , BUT not this.
I have not seen this on this vendors website at that time or since then . I do like this pepper , so I am quite satisfied with my find . I call it a Sugar Rush peach round and have seen seeds for similar looking pods sold as Peppadew peach, due to it's shape and size.

It's an excellent Baccatum , easy to grow and easy to eat . Great as fresh from the plant with the same taste as a Sugar Rush peach ( long phenotype). Good for pickling like the peppadew , and for stuffing.

Any other suggestions for a name?

Dedo de moca

almost 3 years old , overwintered twice , grows best in only half day sun 7am to 12 noon.
One of a few plants in pots , with permanent tray for bottom watering and feeding.
Loaded with big pods . In the past I've pickled and sauced them . Any other ideas?
