KY Ren. Fair is over - Bitter Sweet

Back from the last weekend.  Doing nothing today but binging and sleeping.  Even with medication, the legs are on fire.  Even if I weren't so gimpy, the exhaustion would demand the same.  Not rolling in cash, but it was the best year in at least three.  I feel like I am back from a three year vacation.  Best part, legs n feet held up.  No new holes, breaks, or infections.  This part of the farm season is much easier than the fair, so I think I got this.  In fact, I feel enthused & that is what I want to ramble about today.

I am going to say nearly loosing my legs makes me an extreme case, but willing to bet we all wind up feeling useless at times.  Maybe trapped by circumstance.  I think creativity can help pull us out of that.  When something is done, you can look at how it started and say: I did that.  I think peppers are a fantastic example.

So curious.  Do you ever look at a plant that's finishing up close to first frost and then think about the size of its seed?  There is something in the bible about a mustard seed, but a pepper seed is almost as small.  Now I know we get a bunch of help from Mother Nature, but still... we grow peppers where they just flat were not meant to grow.  Its gotta be a great feeling.

Ever think on that whole tiny seed into huge plant thing and think: I did that?.

Yes I do, all the time.  We're still a few weeks out from our first peppers and tomatoes, but looking at our cellar and seeing the last remnants of the canned tomatoes, salsa, dried garlic, asparagus, dilly beans, etc always makes me remember the work and it's just rewards.

Sometimes the difference between success and failure is the sheer will to go on.  :)

Smokenfire, does home canning make you feel like a magician?  My parents gardened but didn't know a ball jar from a ball point.  I learned from my wife.  So I am always amazed when it works.  Even when I hear that pop when the lid sets up.  I think wow.

I'm always amazed when I grow a successful, healthy plant from a single seed. Part of the spiritual side of gardening.

About growing plants where they weren't meant to be grown - or where they didn't originate - well, humans and plants made an agreement that is aided by our ingenuity: you propagate me, I feed you. Part of that whole spiritual thing for me again - and evidenced by what I preserve (same as Smoken).

The beauty of growing a plant is really something to appreciate. Look at giant sequoias! I think the biggest has 52,000 square feet of biomass.

Even people. Two cells meet to create an entire being with thoughts, feelings, ideas. Life certainly is something.
