Lee's 2011 Wild/Brazilian season

It's the time of the year to get my list for 2011 sorted. I will grow some Brazilian species as well. I'm very interested in the Trepadeira do Werner which was recently collected in the wild somewhere in Brazil. It seems that it's growing habits resembles a climber/vine.
The Brazilian species listed below also contains Chilli's that are collected at particular places along the Amazon river..

Hi Judy,

I grew it this year and it's indeed not the fastest one. I harvested the pods from CAP1491 last week! while being inside for about 8 weeks now.

Hi Chris,

They are not the same as the USDA accession but I'm not sure if it's C.flexuosum. They are labeled as C.flexuosum but the seeds are dark brown!. I tried to germinate these last year but they failed. Will do a second try this year to find out what they exactly are

Lee, my man... I've never grown wild chilies because I didn't have enough room to them.
But, when I saw your list, I feel like I have to go wild this season...
I got an extra Growroom(120x240x120cm), with 2 x 600w HPS lights. :)

Only 3 wild varieties, what I have, is:
Ulupica Large/Rocopica
Galapagoense
Lanceolatum

So, how those varieties germinates? How long it takes and how easy/hard to get them germinating...?

I appreciate for your help!!

Great looking list as usual Lee! A year or so ago you inquired as to what the terrain/landscape looked like where these Tepin's grow.

I finally found some Tepins growing in a natural wild environment. These pics are from Eastern Williamson county, (except the one in my kitchen) which is just above Travis county. This is a deer lease of a coworker. Pics taken within the last 3 days. Coldest temps so far 25 degrees F.

Great pictures. The last pictures shows some frost damage on the stem but the pods seems to be doing fine.

Hi Mikko,

I have had good succes with C.lanceolatum and ulupica but I must say that the shell of C.lanceolatum can be very tough to crack. You might want to soak them overnight prior to sowing to get more chance on success.
Keep temps around 29 degrees and everything should be fine

I'll give and go for wild's...
I have plenty of experience to hard shells, so I'll keep them moist after germination. That should be fine.

I just wondering those germination times. How log it would take with those varieties?
So I won't threw them away after 2 weeks...? :D
 
Well within 3 weeks you should see some signs of life, but longer periods/shorter are possible.

Happy New Year!

Bought me a new propagator with integrated heating system. I used a heating mat in my old one which was to small to heat up the entire propagator completely. I got it on sail and paid €30 and wasn't to happy with the low power output but I'm surprised that the temperature in the cubes reach up to 26 °C with just 15W. The room temperature is 13 °C. In the end I'm happy and can't wait to start my 2011 seeds :roll:

I've put some 2010 seeds in to test their germinating. I have put in some floaters and sinkers of C.tovarii and some C.flexuosum seeds.

I've updated my list with another accession of C.cardenasii for the C.cardenasii project
