Lemon Grass

I've grown it easily from stalks that I bought at the Asian market. I actually noticed it starting to produce roots in the bag in the fridge after I forgot about it for a while. Maybe at some stores it is treated with something that prevents growth?

Ive only grow it from stalks i bought at the market. A few dollars worth gives me enough to fill a gallon freezer bag.

Trim the bottom a very tiny bit 1/8"
Trim off about 90% of the green top. Leave around 4-8" of stalk
Put the stalks in about 1-2" of water near a window.

In less than 2 weeks ive always gotten roots developing and a new green shoot will come out the top.

This started out as 3 stalks from the market.

Frost is going to hit here sometime in the next few weeks, so I figured I would harvest my lemongrass. This cluster grew from a small transplant this Summer, with no manual watering, and only a slight sprinkle of organic fertilizer when planted. I had a feeling it would thrive on the side of my house!

Ive found it to be super simple to grow every time i tried. I did not grow any this year. None of mine i left in ground survived our winter. Most tropical plants and herbs wont survive here. My Vietnamese coriander is almost dead but i started some inside over a month ago and i have more cuttings for another pot. Lemon grass is so easy to grow from market stalks i will just wait until spring.

How do you store it?
