Loving the Cumari

So back in January i planted 10 cumari seeds, 4 sprouted, 1 was destroyed in a drunken watering accident, 1 got burned in a dog knocked over the light while i was at work accident, 1 just yellowed and died for unknown reasons. The lone survivor finally has a few ripe pods. These things grow slooooow! Don't know if they're just finicky or just a bad batch of seeds.

But it was definitely worth the wait! They really do taste like fruit loops! Gram for gram about the same heat as an orange habanero.

I plan bringing this in and putting it under my 400W HID once the frost comes... Too hard to grow from seed every year.

Any one else growing these? Please feel free to post your pics.

OH GOD I WISH I'D GOT SEEDS TO GERMINATE!!!!! These so intrigue me to the n'th degree, and all of my seeds didn't germinate. So they really do taste like fruit loops huh? Great. Have to wait another year to dig on these I guess.

Seriously, I'm glad to see some pics of this plant and hear it is all it's cracked up to be!

I have Cumari o Passarinho,Cumari du para and Cumari growing.
I never had trouble germinating the seeds but keeping them alive long enough to put out pods is another story.

This is the second or third year I grow them.

Something always kills them before I get buds or pods.
I've had a foot high plant with a pencil thick stem for 2 years.
The grasshoppers and crickets won't leave it alone.
It couldn't take the abuse and died this spring.
Same with the Galopagoense.
I do have trouble getting the CGN 22208 to sprout but the PI 97450083 is easy but the bugs eat that for desert after munching on the cumari.

This year they are having Habaneros for apetizers.
Wierd how they pic certain plants to munch on and leave others alone.My plants are in containers very close together.A branch from one plant could be growing through another plant but the bugs want only one of them and don't touch the second one.

Cumari: These small pea size (.3") pods grow on a branching shrub like plant. Very prolific. Extremely aromatic and very fruity...similar aroma as "Fruit Loops" cereal. Hot 9/10. Excellent used fresh for salsas and sauces. You'll get tired of picking these bite size morsels of heat.
 
Really pretty Cumari plant UnNatural I have one grown from the same seed peppermania. Mine is covered in unripe fruits cannot wait to try a ripe pod. I love trying new chilis I've never had before. At a bowl of my kids Fruit Loops last night just to try to get a taste down.
 
I'm also growing a Cumari ou Passarinho, seeds from Beth. It's doing quite well I'm happy to say. We had a few nights where the temps got down into the 50's which made it think it was time to ripen pods so several of them have a purplish color. Now I could be totally wrong about that.

The purple looks cool! I wanted to get these also but she was sold out when i ordered the cumari. Please keep us updated on flavor and heat when these ripen for ya.

All pics/posts are welcome. I'm very interested in the other cumari strains.

EDIT:
All this talk of fruit loops gave me an idea. Didn't have fruit loops though, all i had were Apple Jacks.

I have the Cumari ou Passarinho the same as patrick. I love the little round yellow pods of your cumari UnNatural. My plant and pods look exactly like patrick except mine aren't sunburn purple. Pods look the same elongated jelly beans, the plant is in the shade a bit and just putting off its first pods. Hope mine taste like fruit loops or I wanna try the ones you got.;)
 
Had a few more for breakfast today in a fruit salad. Grapefruit, orange, rasberries, cumari, mint. They go great with sweet foods. I really wish i had more than 1 plant, i see myself using these alot.

Just looked that up on chileman, they do look very similar. Maybe it's the same thing but ones the Bolivian name and the other Brazilian?
