Low Temps

Temps have hit upper 30's quite a few nights, and daytime temps been ranging from mid 50's to even 70 sometimes this october up here in NY. The plants of varying types (Hot Hungarian Wax, Jalapeno, Serrano, Pepperoncini, Cayenne, Habanero, Hot Cherry) are doing just fine and even still flowering believe it or not. Even as the native trees in the area leaves are turning colors and dropping off getting ready for winter dormancy. All my pepper plants are in ground, not pots, maybe that helps a bit as the residual ground heat helps keep em alive?

When first frost hits and kills off the foliage, its harvest time :) and time for a HUGE pot of chili to get brewing and then stored up in the freezer in quart size containers for autumn and winter eats!

Ground heat does make a diff. If you don't have too many, covering them when frost is expected will extend the ripening period.
