Man in wheelchair charged with drunk driving

CANBERRA (Reuters) - Police in Australia have charged a man for drink driving in a motorized wheelchair after he was found to be six times over the legal alcohol limit, local media reported on Monday.

Police in the tropical northern Queensland city of Cairns said the man had a blood alcohol reading of 0.31, and was so drunk he was asleep at the controls of his motorized wheelchair in a turning lane of a major highway.

"It beggars belief," Police Inspector Bob Walters told the Cairns Post newspaper, adding wheelchairs, bicycles, horses and skateboards were all considered to be vehicles under the state's road laws.

"It's unlawful, it is unacceptable and people should realize it could lead to a fatality," he said.

Other motorists on the four-lane highway had to swerve to avoid the wheelchair, police said.

Damn...

A horse is a vehicle?!

I'm thankful to a horse that knew it's own way back to the barn one night in Texas about 12 years ago after a long night of beer drinking. I may never have found my way back that night...:lol::lol:

He probably couldn't have done that in a wheelchair. At most he might have gotten one cyclist.

I had to go to driving school (in lieu of points) recently, and there are some more horrible DUI stories than that.

I won't link them, but the carrolton bus crash, where some poor jack ass had 4 too many and killed 27 freaking people. Can you imagine?

On one hand you can say that it was unintentional, he didn't wake up and think "what should I do today? Kill 26 people?.....nah! let's make it 27!"

But he did drink and drive, and 27 people are dead. If anything it may be worse that it was unintentional.

I drive once/month now only to load up on groceries. Only nice thing about the ripoff gas prices is that, as a consequence of less cars on the road, lives will be saved.

Yeah, everyones getting shafted on a global level in regards to gas prices. Well, most countries at least. (Not Kuwait, Qatar, ect.) What's interesting is oddly some people over here think it's just here. It's everywhere. If I could have my own business from home I would be set.:)
