Hello!

So.. i'm 25 year old guy from Finland and i love chilis very much!! I have been growing now for 3 years. It's still snow on the ground here and pretty cold, so my plants are still indoors. On sunny days i have took few plants to outside for a while. Here's my list and some photos for this season:

Peruvian White Habanero
Aji Habanero
Aji Cristal
Gumdrop
Cayenne
Orange Habanero

I hope it's soon warmer here so i could take all chilis to outdoors.. but it doesnt look too good. For next two weeks it's like +5 degrees and not very sunny. Yesterday and day before it was snowing more again. So the growing season is pretty short in here.. i dont like that! Hope the summer is warm and sunny! :)

Sun is shining and plants are outside.. :)

Nice photographs, Mankeli! Your pepper plants and flowers look
fabulous, and your pod shots, too. How long is your growing
season in Finland? I imagine things grow fast in the long summer days?

Thanks Paul!! :)

Well i usually take my plants outdoors permanetly at some point of may and take them back inside maybe september or so.. it depends. But yeah.. it's cool that the sun hardly never sets at summer here.. so yes, plants grow pretty fast at summer. And summers are pretty warm here usually..

Few photos:

Black Pearl is finally starting to show some Black on it's leaves! Cool!

IMG_5222.JPG

And pod is also starting to go black.. tho i think this is a cross between Black Pearl and Bolivian Rainbow cos the pods shape isnt Black pearl.

IMG_5223.JPG

Bhut Jolokia x Trinidad Perfumes pod isnt growing at all.. maybe because cold air during the flowering.

Plants on the fence.. :)

I got a new camera yesterday and took few photos.. need to practise more but they came out pretty good.

Indeed great pictures, also the ones from the landscape. I must say I'm surprised you can keep you plants outside that long, sounds like your season is even better then ours

Thank you very much! :) The camera seems to be pretty nice yea. Cant wait to get outdoors to take some photos.. now its +2 celsius and snowing again..wtf? Not fun at all.

Well i just checked that last summer i took plants outside end of may and back inside end of August. Let's see how it goes on this summer. If i had a greenhouse i could already keep my plants there.. :(

You got some beautiful plants going! I guess we share a bit of the same weather up here north, poor us haha

Days are about +6 and down to minus some nights. Been pretty cold.

When you normally plant out or move them out there in Finland?

Thanks mate! Where are you from?

Here's also like +6 and still some minus at night. It seems its going to get warmer soon.. on sunday should be +16 and sunny.. we'll see! :D

Last year i took plants outside end of May.. soon as temperature doesnt go anymore to minus at night. But now i can take my plants outside at daytime and take them back inside for night. But i have half of my plants at my parents place so it's a bit problem, cos i cant be there carrying plants inside at night so we'll see when i can permanetly take them out. Maybe some point of may i hope! I will plant one chili to outside and that will probably happen in end of may or so..

South Norway, very close to the ocean. You're north or south in Finland?

From now and on it's very rare to get minus here, maybe a few more nights this month. These last days it's been +3c at night and +8c at day with rainy weather. Being 16c at this time of year sounds pretty amazing, sure won't be that warm here in a long time! :(

Wish I could bring the peppers out at day too but that's impossible when working all the time, got a nice system indoors anyway :)

One week ago I put one Red Manzano plant in my greenhouse just as an experiment if it would survive. It's said to be a very tolerant type of plant originated from some high altitude mountains somewhere. So far it seems to look fine, it's been out in +3c.

Norway, cool! I've been there once as a child. Loved it! We were some place called Bergen if i remember the name right. There was some kickass mountains and stuff.. very cool looking nature! I live in southern Finland.. thank god! :D

Well +16 is just what the weather guy in TV said.. and they say lots of things that doesnt really happen. :D

Yeah.. Rocotos are nice plants. They can take cold much more than other chilis.. love them! :)

Man i am far south from you and my weather right now is about the same. and this time of year sun is very hard to come by! we are covered in grey clouds for so long. But it looks like by next wednesday we might have a sunny day again :)

I didnt know that about Rocotos! were you able to leave them outside longer last year? Maybe i have to look into growing some!

Yeah.. also here is lots of gray clouds on the sky and the sun have shined only in few days. Tomorrow it's snowing AGAIN omg lol! But next week seems to be a bit warmer.

Rocotos were the first ones i took out last summer.. and the last i took inside. They were doing fine tho it was like +5-10 celsius at night. They seem to like that the air is chilly at night and warm on day time. As they naturally grow in mountains where the nights can be pretty cold and days are sunny, but not too hot! Rocotos are also the best tasting chilis i've tasted so far and so nice looking plants.. completely different than others! Damn this english is sometimes hard to write.. hope you get sense!.. my head is not working now.. :D

Good to see your having success in places I thought would be worse than the UK which comes with poor weather too. I think you probably have a similar time frame to put things outside, but in the UK we often get an Indian summer in September so can keep things producing until early October. Last year was a rubbish summer for us so I'm hoping this year will be hotter, won't get the uber long days like you though.

Yea you're right, the name is Bergen. That's north west from where I live, I'm living on the most southern part of Norway almost.

Sure are lot's of mountains here, only once been to Bergen though so don't remember how it's there. Though the nature in Finland was not that different? Just thousands of lakes and a bit more flat?

I don't know a lot about what the Rocotos can handle, my first year growing them. One thing for sure that it's grown bigger and faster than all my other peppers in my hydroponic unit. The one I put outside in greenhouse is still small, in soil though.

Looking forward to getting some Rocoto pods, had like 60 flowers drop and no peppers formed. Only thing I can think of is that my watering schedule in my hydroponic unit is too much so I will cut down on that and hopefully that solves the flower drop issue!

Last summer sure was rubbish, rain, rain and more rain. No sun to boost the growth of plants. Hopefully warmer and less rain this summer. You "Howster" are lucky to be more south than me! Easier to produce peppers hehe
