Knife is 7 1/2in. long - handle is 4 1/2in.
Nice pods.
13 lbs.I bought 45-50lbs total for the smoker. Yee Haaa!

Saved seeds from all the pods separately from everything over 3 1/2 inches tall.
A lot are 3 1/2in. - 4 1/4in....

What specific variety do you think that is? Just a large orange manzano? I have been purchasing seeds for all shapes and sizes of pubes. I want to grow something monstrous. Judy has a large mexican variety on her website. Do you think they would be similar to the ones in your pictures?

those are massive either they pumbed em full of fertilizer or there a large varity i only have one plant same color peppers but 1\2 the size mabe even less than half how do they taste i figured good since you got a bunch of em,

The store I got these at has pods from Northern California or Guatamala.
Depends what the vendor brings them.
I think these are from So Cal.

I also think most seeds that vendors sell are a by product of the growers who make processed goods out of their pods.
I don't know of any specific grower that grows Manzanos for seed only.

I think that with a pepper that pretty much only will pollinate with itself they don't isolate plants for seed like they have to with other pepper varieties.
A seed vendor or supplier has to only be concerned that the customer gets C.Pubescens seeds.

Put a pic on the pack of what they think will sell the seeds and nobody can complain...

Some will be like advertised others won't.
I do notice market pods seem a lot more productive than the seeds I've bought in packs.
Might be because they are fresher, are from older plants or whatever,I don't know.
Market pepper seeds have a LOT higher germination rate and aren't treated.

Lots of pod variations in each box they put out.

Since Pubes don't cross with many other Pepper varieties I'd guess pod shape and size is the luck of the draw in general.

I see a LOT of pods that when ripe are both orange and yellow colored or go from orange to red so maybe there is a lot of crossing between the plants in the field.

As far as seeds I've purchased, none seem to grow as big as the parent plant did as far as pod size.

Pretty much you have to grow the seeds out to see what you get.
It might take several seeds from the same pack or even pod to get the size you want.

I have seeds from market pods that are even bigger than the ones above but only a couple so far have grown the same 4 1/2 inch apples the seeds came from.

10 is the limit now and without a post to break them up a second post gets thrown right onto the last one.
Either way those are massive Manzanos. I have 5 small baseballs hanging on my one and only plant in the covered garden. No color change yet and today I saw what looks like corking starting on the top. This is the last attempt for me. They would be dead already if they weren't in the covered and heated garden. Last year I got no ripe pods. This year I have bigger pods and they still....oh well I am in a bad zone for them.

At 2 bucks an lb I'd snatch them up especially as ripe as those. We have the Mexican Supermercado's that have a variety called the "Yellow Perrins" I'v bought them in the past for some seed stock, the pods are very pine/applely flavored..........but at $9.99 a lb I only needed a few..........ha

One thing to add to that, at least in my Zone (5b) its important to start those very early indoors and pinch off all the early flowers. Better yet would be overwintering one for the following year. My Manzano's and Rocoto's do much better in the containers between the homes with no more than 3 hrs of direct sunlight. The plants really perk up in the shade.

impressive so many huge fruit. I read in a previous post that you use Ozmocoat double strenght, do you still do that? It seems to be working whatever you are feeding them :)

I only put Ozmocote in the soil mix when I first mix it up.
I think with bark based soil mix it gives the roots a good head start.

These plants were a couple years old and only get Seaweed extract and Alaska fish Fertilizer in a weak dose every time I water.

Boy those manzanos are really huge, I've tried growing them even overwintering and even though the plants would load up at times the pods never got as big as those. The best I got were just about the size of a cherry pepper. I finally quite trying to grow them as Missouri's weather is not what they like. I do like their flavor, and the fact that they are quite juicy and thick fleshed for a hot pepper.

Ive got a couple Monzano,s from a guy on craigslist. They a very vigorous, nice big yellow pods. The seeds germinate very easy using the paper towel method. Im saving all the seeds from these. I got a bunch of babies under a 600 metal Halide for next season, I want some monsters!
