MeatHead 2014

Thought I'd start a new glog as my 1st year grow plants have now gone, and all remaining plants are intended for the 2014 season. Currently have growing with hopes of keeping through winter-
Yellow bhut jolokia
Brain strain
Aji limon
Chocolate Trinidad scorpion
Fatalii
Black Hungarian
Chinese 5 colour.
Have all healthy plants bar 1 out of 6 inch pots and in either permanent or semi permanent homes. Due to messing up the labels I'm not sure which is which on the Chinense varieties. Have 1 seedling that was seriously struggling, but it's starting to throw out new leaves so there's hope for it yet. Hoping we either have a mild Winter here, or I can get some lights set up in our spare bedroom to get them through until Spring. Have a few more varieties I have yet to plant, but thinking I may wait til the end of January to start those seeds.

Anyway, enough babbling. On to some pics!
Green pot is an Aji Limon, bag TBD Chinense, Venus fly trap and pitcher plant on the cooler in the back, cayenne I'm trying to decide whether to OW or not in the red pot and some cilantro in the cup

Another couple of TBD Chinense's and the struggling seedling that's popping back (over watering was the cause I think)

Chinese 5 colour and 2 more Chinense's

Aloe vera and a couple of strawberries for my wife

More tbd Chinense's

Black Hungarian (already putting out flower buds that are getting pinched off for now)

Good stuff dude looking forward to seeing how you progress. How do you find the grow bags? I might use them if I cant find cheap pots. What size are those and are they suitable for final home?

Thanks sarge! The bags are just eco friendly shopping bags from the local dollar store we got for $1 each. Couldn't pass them up for that price. I think these one's work out to be about 5 gallons, and yeah they'll be the final home for the plants in them. Will probably get some more for the others at the start of Spring.

Plants survived their 2 night stay inside, and are enjoying some sunshine again. Got another fungus gnat outbreak, but have some mosquito dunks ready to go to help with that little problem. Checked on the plants today when I got home from work, and got a nice little surprise. Have a few plants starting to put out some new leaf growth after not showing any signs of growth since being potted up-

Also have some good news on the little seedling that's been struggling. It shed all it's old leaves, and has been growing new leaves with no problems. Looking really healthy now (though still really small), so I'm happy that it pulled through and is doing fine

Looks good dude, I must advise you though to monitor your plants closely, it looks like you have some pest coming around and having a chew on your leaves.. Do you have any snail trails anywhere?

Yeah I was having trouble with slugs and snails where I had them at before. Had to move them as they weren't getting any sun where they were at and haven't had any more problems with them since. Only pests I'm having issues with now is fungus gnats, and hoping the mosquito dunks I'm using knock them out quickly.

Good luck on your grow, you should be able to move them in and out for most of the winter.
Thanks Devv. I actually ordered a mini greenhouse yesterday for them. Going to try that and a little heater (if needed) and see if that works for them. If not then I'll build a ghetto grow tent and bring them inside.

That will do the trick!

Be careful when the suns out.

I have a glass display case like the ones in small shops, even when it's cool out it get over 100° and that's with the sliding doors off.

So now I just use it to put the plants on when they get to go outside.

Thanks for the info. Just went and checked again and it was up over 80. Turned it down a bit more and will double check before bed. Will be turning the heater off during the day for sure, and opening vents when it warms up a bit again.

Perfect chance to see how well the greenhouse works this week in case we get a really cold winter here this year. Supposed to warm up again next week though thankfully

Plants have been loving the greenhouse so far. Most plants are pushing out new growth really well, and the one's that haven't put any out yet are showing signs of new growth forming.

No matter how often I pinch the buds off, the Chinese 5 colour continues to put out more. Think I may leave these one's on now that I don't have to worry about the cold weather. Very interested to see what the pods off this taste like.

Extremely happy with the recovery and progress this little guy has made recently after nearly killing it. It's starting to come on really well now.

Should've done this earlier and kept it to one post lol. Jimmy Nardello and Bishop's hat sprouts had gotten big enough to plant into pots. Screwed up when going to pot up the Bishop's hat and accidentally killed it  :mope:   Lesson learned there. Successfully potted the Nardello though, and while getting them out noticed I have 2 new hooks showing as well! If my labels are right this time one is a Brazilian starfish and the other is an aji pineapple. Hoping the labels are right as they're 2 of my wife's (and mine) favourites.

Not the best pics but just noticed and it's getting dark out

Planted some more seeds this morning. Added SBJ7, MoA Scotch bonnets, Aji amarillo and red bhut jolokia. Will probably add a couple more superhots, mild-hots and some more sweets towards the end of winter. Thinking Bahamian goat, SAFI red hab, bonda ma jacques, yellow scorpion, black naga and either white or yellow 7 pot for the hots and supers. Unsure on the milds and sweets yet as the only mild I have seeds for that I haven't planted is black jalapeno's, and I don't have seeds for any sweets. Will have to research some more before deciding which seeds to get for those.

Your plants look really happy in their new digs.  But like Scott said, keep a close eye on them when the sun is out.  They can bake in a hurry on a sunny day.
