soil Mixed up my first "custom" soil mix today

7.5 cubic feet of plain 'ol organic potting soil from local garden center.

1.5 cubic feet composted cow manure

3 cubic feet composted peat humus

2.5 cubic feet perlite

Mix looked good when I was finished with it but MAN! SO SORE ALREADY! Filled up 10 7 gallon Smart Pots and almost got a 15 gallon Smart Pot full too. Wasn't sure if I needed to add nutrients or not so I went ahead and watered my plants with some fish emulsion mixed in. Figured it couldn't hurt. Pretty proud of the mix overall and I'll post a pic of it a little later when my shoulder recovers some.

Cost was WAY more attractive than buying Fox Farm Ocean Forest. This cost me about $40 for just under 15 cubic feet including the bottle of fish emulsion where FFOF would have cost at least $170 before tax at the cheapest source of it in Houston.

I now have a 15 gallon and one 7 gallon pot left filled with soil and no plants after the transplants... hmmmmm... what to do, what to do.....

I've got some great magic beans for those extra pots, guaranteed to get you as high as Jack

Soil mix looks great, manure for the win XD I just finished a mo' ago as well  Damn tarp was too small to roll it around well.

Ha ha! Let's just say I have *a little* experience with magic beans. Not active experience at the moment but we'll expand on that when they become legal in Texas (HAHAHAHAHA ).

I used a 2 mil HDX painters tarp/drop cloth that was about $3 from Home Depot that worked great for the amount I mixed. Think it was 9' X 12'? This is hopefully the last time I have to do this as I had done a FFOF mix with some extra perlite for the original transplanting that happened a couple months ago. I just got too into ordering more plants and had to get more pots, soil, etc which is what today's work was for. Curious to see how my mix does with the plants compared to the Ocean Forest (which was my sole magic bean medium).

I can't believe many of us who grow in mostly containers buy mix once u start filling 300,400,500+ gal of mix at a time that shiat can get pricey!

Good luck with your mix. I would love to hear how your plants do in that mix. I tried a few different mixes this year, I want to see which work better for me.
