Mmmmmm Caviar

Hey y'all, whilst at the supermarket yesterday i spotted a bloody ripper of a bargain, so i bought the remaining 4 jars.

What is it hear you ask, wait there, the title ruined that bit..

What WAS $7 a jar (5o grm) was reduced to 80cents a pop!:onfire:
So i got some water crackers, tabasco sauce and some chilli powder, spread the caviar liberaly, applied sauce then added some powder.
It was delicious:)

So the next time you are feeling stinking rich, grab some caviar and apply heat- it works well.:P

Thats what i had, the big red tasty Salmon balls, i love how they just "pop" in your mouth:) this stuff is Australian, Huon it's called. Got a nice smoky flavour.

All they have at my local shops is lumpfish roe *ptooey*
I thought Oz was big on caviar... they sell multiple types in local shops here. you can get the rare ones easily, too.

Always thought these two come together. too bad most aren't Kosher (had the pleasure of trying most as a child)... :onfire:

Australia has only truly embraced mulit-culturalism in the last 20 or 30 years, probably due to how far we are away from Europe and the rest of the world. garlic was unheard of when I was a child. in fact things like calamari have only really been part of our food culture in the last 20 yrs or so, thanks to the immigration of other peoples.

I agree that roe and seafood should be fairly common but I don't think roe really became popular here until the last ten years or so ago with the proliferation of Japanese eateries.

Yah when i was skiing in niseko a couple years ago almost everything had ikura (salmon roe) on it.. i became addicted :onfire: not big on flying fish roe though (tiny lil red ones) but dont mind it on the outside of my sushi.

Flying fish roe hey, one used to be able to catch flying fish in Lake Maquarie many moons ago. God i miss the "old" days, like when my grandfather grew garlic and would slice off tiny bits for me to try, he got me addicted to the stuff now i stink 24/7! :) Hopefully i can become the Grandfather one day and open the eyes of my grandchildren to the wonderful world of growing real food, brewing real beer and that kind of stuff ;)
