Moruga Blend ???

Have you seen the terms Moruga Blend, Trinidad Moruga Blend, Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Blend, or the likes?  Trying to figure out if someone is trying to imply something different with the word blend tacked on at the end.

I'm going to stop using that 'b' in my abbreviation. I wasn't sure if it was more proper or not to use blend, but CPI doesn't use it. I also confused people newer to the chilli scene early this year. They thought it stood for brown since we have TS Moruga browns now.

Edit:

Here is some recent history of the pepper: http://thepepperseed.com/peppers/trinidad-scorpion-moruga-the-worlds-hottest-chilli-pepper/

You can see blend is being used by reputable people (Chris' pic shows blend being used in 2010).

Yeah, it's not good to not include scorpion when referring to Trinidad scorpion Moruga. It sounds like they mean Trinidad scorpion Moruga when saying "Moruga blend" or "Trinidad Moruga blend," which is very careless.

I very much like the suggestion that folk try to stick with CARDI terms, but want to add that CPI is an excellent base for naming convention as well.  It seems terms are used in wildly different ways.

Meinchoh, I use the terms "Trinidad Moruga Scorpion" and "Trinidad Scorpion" to refer to two different peppers.  From what others said, I am going to guess that what I am calling "Trinidad Moruga Scorpion" is the same as what you are calling "Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Blend".

I am not sure what "Trinidad Moruga" is.  Could you be using the term to mean some folk call "Trinidad Scorpion"?  Naming convention is so insane.

So someone with knowledge please confirm .. Is there a "Trinidad Moruga Scorpion" and a "Trinidad Moruga Blend" possibly not of the Scorpion distinction?

Because I have heard this also?
Looking into Trinidad Scorpions and Trinidad 7 Pot recently ... It has melted my mind with the similarities between these peppers..

The Scorpion distinction only seems to matter when it comes down to the bare bone 'Trinidad Scorpion' or 'Butch T' variant as they seem easier to identify by shape, texture and flavour were Everything else seems to be a close lookalike.. Although I know the internals and flavour are quiet different.

When 7 pots are growing bigger tails then scorpions it really emphasises that 'brother from a different mother' relationship.

Is this the same in this situation ?

Trinidad Moruga is not a super hot and not a scorpion pepper.

Trinidad Scorpion Butch T is a refinement or possible cross of the Trinidad Scorpion pepper.

Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Blend (TSMB) was the name of the original seeds Chris received from a source in Trinidad (I think it was 2007, but could be wrong ).

Since then the name has had many different permutations. There really is no standardized naming conventions thus the confusion.

The scorpion and scorpion moruga (however it is named) are different peppers. There is some speculation that the TSMB is a possible cross with a 7 Pot.

Well that would make sense.. The 'Moruga' does look very different to that of other Scorpions except for the bulbous base, but the texture and retracted tip scream at 7 Pot...

Are you saying there is speculation that the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion is one pepper and the Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Blend is the same pepper crossed with a 7 pot?

Not at all.

What I'm saying is: Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Blend = Trinidad Scorpion Moruga = Trinidad Moruga Scorpion = Moruga Scorpion = Scorpion Moruga. These are all the same pepper with variations on the name.

My understanding is that Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Blend was the original name of this pepper when it was first brought out of Trinidad. Chris Phillips was the recipient of these original seeds and spread them amongst the pepper community.

Since then the name has taken on many different forms.

Personally I don't think it makes sense to put Moruga before Scorpion, just like it doesn't make sense to but Butch T before scorpion. I prefer the naming convention of Trinidad Scorpion Moruga or Trinidad Scorpion Butch T. The Blend after Moruga does cause some confusion, especially when using initials (TSMB) and that we now have different types such as the brown... some may think that TSMB = Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Brown and not Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Blend... although the creator of one of the brown forms just calls the pepper a Brown Moruga.

The speculation is that this original pepper was a scorpion crossed with a 7 pot and not a pure scorpion. It's possible I guess, but something we may never know for sure.
