Ok so im going to be moving from my current home here in illinois to nothern California in the next couple of months.
Im looking for some info on the best way to transport a number of my plants.
Ive already contacted the agricultural department to have then come inspect my plants due to cali being so anal about bringing live plants into their state.
What id like to know
Whats the best way to move them without causing harm?
Should I package them in 100% dark and while I sleep at hotel ea night rig my t5 up in the bathroom and give them light? Lol
Are there any steps I need to take prior to moving to help prevent shock?
Couldnt find anything with good info on this topic so here it is for all of you experienced growers to hopefully throw some educated answer at.

How big are the plants? What size pots are they in? Are you driving, how long do you plan if so?
 
Package, move, unpackage, plant or put pot in final location
 
Uh theyre all about 10in tall or less right now but depending when im able to go will determine how tall they are. All the ones im taking are in 1-1.5 gal buckets. So maybe15in tall including the pots. With the acception of a zavory plant I have but it can ride in the car and make it or not lol
The drive is aboht 48hrs drive time and ill be stoping @ a hotel to sleep at least 1 out of the 2 days.
Didnt know if feeding them a little low lume light during the journey would be good or bad.
Originally thought abojt buying a giant plastic storage container and filling with dirt and drop them all in but after finding out the punishment for not following their guidlines ive decided to just spend the $ and do things the right way.
 
I just did that.. va to az..   but need more info.. how are you traveling? towing anything trailer or car? we towed a car and put a bunch of the plants in the front seat of car also we had some in the extreme rear of the  moving truck. as far as  light.. well we put plastic down on the front of the seats to water the plants as needed.. they got ventilation via a partially open window or two.. the ones in the back of the big truck.. well i had a  led  grow light set so that i could plug it in at night at the hotel when we stopped. you got to check where you are stopping and ask in advance if they have that available.. they only charged us an extra 5-10  each night for that. It  takes some extra work  but all my plants survived the trip. since you are doing the fast.. and long drive  i think your plants could survive without sun for a while.. if you dont have the led light option.. you could just open the back of the truck during your pit stops... open the back of the truck when you stop for lunch or to get gas to give the plants some light. More light is better but you need to plan well..

Yes its pretty nice out there.. and cotton wood is the town ill be in. Yea itl be a couple month before I go so def trying to plan ahead. Im sure theyle handle it just didnt know what to do to aid the process. .
We should be using a truck and a partially closed trailer
 
I might be wrong, but I think they'll do fine for 3-4 days with minimal light. People mail plants in boxes across the country and they seem to do okay in complete darkness

That's about 3 hours or so north of here.
