My first glog 2016

Hey all,
So i have followed other peoples glogs but never got around to doing one so i decided this is the year.  I think this is my 3rd year growing from seed and i have really enjoyed the ride and all of the help i have gotten here on THP.  I figured the least i can do is do a glog and maybe it will help some people, and i am sure i will get help from people along the way. I am not saying i will be the best at doing a lot of new pictures and updates, but i will certainly try to as often as possible.  I am trying a new setup this year.  The past couple of years i used a card table and had a pvc light stand with a couple of t8 double lights and using 1020 trays. That took up a lot of space and wasn't very good on the back. This year i have upped my game (hopefully  :P ) and gotten one of those shelf stands like you see at the big box stores that is 24" or so wide x 48" long and has adjustable shelves. I got it used for $30 at a online yard sale thing we have here so i felt like i got it for a good price.  So on one of the shelves i have my seedlings  and on the bottom of the stand i have a couple of my overwinters (og's).  The shelf with the seedlings has 3 sets (2 lights on each) of t8 fluorescent lights hanging from the top, heat mats, and a mini greenhouse for germinating.  The other shelves are used for storage of various things for my grow and hot sauce making and canning etc...  All of this is in my basement where it is fairly cool at around 64 degrees in the winter. I have the lights hooked up to a timer and the heat mats going through a thermostat and daisy chained together. The reflecting stuff is set up where i have it completely surrounding the grow space, but i can lift/move 2 sides of it for access very easily.  I also have a fan that is on a timer and is set for 15 to 30 minute intervals throughout the day.  I have several other overwinters and a lemon and lime (dwarf) tree upstairs in south facing windows. I started germination on January 13th with the chinenses and all but one have already germinated. I stared a few of the pubes and wilds a few days ago, none have popped yet.  The last couple of years i have used the peat pellets and they were okay, but after seeing a little on root riots i gave them a shot, so far so good.  Ok so i think i have covered the setup, below is a few pics of that and my grow list. Speaking of the grow list i need to go through my list and update who i got seeds from, i will do that soon. Thanks for looking, Brad.

Edit: I guess the ultimate goal is to end up with about 70 or so plants at plant out in May.  I will have about 10-20 extra to give away to friends and family.

thanks Brother :)
Glad to hear you are at least trying to grow some, hopefully you ca decide :drooling: .  Do you have a short list you have narrowed it down to?

I apologize for my lack of participation in my own glog, i have no good reason i just kept forgetting to take pics and next thing i know it is a month and half later :mope: .  Things are going pretty well, going to maybe start hardening off slowly this weekend or next week so that they will be ready for plant out sometime in early May, weather depending.  You can see they are getting pretty big, they look droopy because the pics were taken right before i watered.  I have noticed all of my stavros peperoncinis have some yellowing of the leaves, this is the only plant doing that so i guess it is something to do with that type.  i have never grown these before so maybe it is normal. Many of the plants have started producing flowers and buds, trying to pick off as many as i can but there is a ton. Thanks for looking  :surprised:

So i got all the plants in the ground over the weekend.  Lot of work but it feels good to get them out. Very windy here today with a chance of storms the next few days.  Hopefully no major storms so they can get a strong hold in their new homes.  I have about 30 peppers in the front in my raised beds and then about 39 in containers including my 5 overwinters, i have given away the rest to friends and family. I rushed the hardening off for the overwinters a little this year cause i was going out of town, so i fried a lot of the leaves but they seem to be recovering now, i am sure i set them back but they will survive. Most of the ones in containers are in my back yard on a drip system under a shade cloth.  For now the shade cloth is just rigged up and i don't have the containers laid out how they will but i will this weekend probably. I tried growing pubescens last year that got really big but by the time they produced any peppers it was too late, so i have placed the five i have growing in places that only receive morning sun and i have hopefully picked some that are more tolerant of the heat. I also have the lemon tree (that has several small but growing lemons) and the lime tree in the back.  A coworker is supposed to be giving me a couple san marzano tomato plants in a few days. I have never grown tomatoes because I am not a huge fan of raw ones but i do like them in sauces, salsas, and cooked so a am sure i will find a use.  If anyone has grown these and has a particular suggestion i would love to hear it. I am going to put that in the back yard in large containers, seems like they will have the same basic requirements as peppers in terms of soil, food, water, etc... I guess that's it for now, thanks for looking

Seems like that shelf was well worth the money! The beds are looking great. May I ask what purpose the green fencing thing serves?
Yeah the shelf was absolutely worth it, so much easier than pvc setup i had before. The temporary green fencing is there to keep my dogs out of my grow area in the back yard. It works very well for that and it was pretty cheap and not hard to set up.  Basically it has created a fenced area inside my fenced in back yard

Nice operation you got goin' on there! It looks like your plants appreciate it, too.
Thanks man, they seem to be doing pretty well this year and no major transfer shock as of yet.  I started them a little earlier this year and i used worm castings in the soil with a little on top after they sprouted and they have loved it. I also put some castings in the holes i dug and on top at transplant last weekend.
