my jalapeno is defective... still not well... please.... help me...

I just dont know what to do.... My jalapeno seems to be retarded. The first 4 leaves that grew are a good size and nice and perky and solid, but every leaf which grew after comes out weak and floppy, I'm so frustrated, I just want to stamp on it or something, after all I have Don for it it won't do bugger all for me. Here is a picture of it now, cut the to puff a week ago, seemed to be alright for a while then boom. Back with limp leaves.

Ah... you seem to be at the most difficult stage every grower eventually encounters.... waiting. Sit back, relax, keep it watered regularly, but not over-watered, and it will be fine. Maybe give it some more light.

+1

it appears the plant was cropped. If so, new growth will start rather slow before taking off. It also looks like you are growing on a window sill without supplemental light. Your jalapeno like DLsolo suggested needs more light.

Don't put it outside though. It will burn, and at this stage that is not good. Get a grow light if you have to, otherwise put it in a sunroom.

I have a couple of runts that started a new growth spurt this week with the 100* weather we have for the last few days. I may end up over wintering the runts this year and have them ready and running in the spring and let them have a chance to redeem themselves lol.

It gets plenty of light because its sunny where I live now, the sun through the windows creates a greenhouse effect, which has been very good for seedlings, not so good for this plant. When the sun comes out when I move it to the east window in the morning, it looses all its rigidity in all leaves except the first 4 that greew . Maybe I should leave it in partial sunlight. Oh yes this photo was taken almost at night because that's when it looks worst, belive me this is a very sunny windo w at day

From what you say right there, sounds like the roots are getting too hot. When the roots get hot, the plant will droop. Not much you can do about it except cool the roots down either by watering with cool water or moving it to partial shade.

Of course this is all conjecture. You'll have to decide for yourself. I would hold my hand to the pot and make sure its not getting too hot. If it is then take corrective action and move it into partial shade to see how things go.

Yes the pot gets quite hot about 10am to 2pm in the east window spot it sits now, so ill see if moving it helps. Maybe I should keep it in the west window, which gets partial sunlight from morning till 3pm, then full until the sun sets.

That might work. Let us know if the is any visible improvement.

If it is the heat effect on the roots, then I wouldn't worry too much. My plants are all usually droopy by the time I get home and they sit out in full sun the majority of the day.

What is the pot made of? It looks like galvanized steel to me, and if it is, may be heating up the root zone as mentioned above when it gets hot. You could try insulating the pot by wrapping an old towel around it.

Good luck.
