My very 1st Glog

Well I decided to do a glog on here. I have no frickin clue what I am doing but I have read a bunch of other successful glogs and trying to take something here and there to see if It'll work for me. Living in western Washington growing super hots will be a challenge due to no guarantees on hot summers each season. But I got a portable greenhouse 6x6x6 for Christmas so this should help a lot.

I started some store bought jalapenos a couple of weeks ago in some "experimental" soil. Do to a lot of factors I had some problems with them once they sprouted. More of that later. So here is a list of what I am currently growing. I got the seeds from a very nice person on another gardening page. I am very grateful for his generosity. *Disclaimer* I know the following is seriously noobish. Forgive me I am learning as I go along.

Caribbean red habanero
Bhut Jolokia
Trinidad Scorpion
Chocolate Habanero
Orange Habanero
7 Pot
Trinidad Douglah
Scotch Bonnet (Yellow)
Congo Brown
Black Pearl
Fatalii (not sure of the color yellow?)

All seeds were were sown on 01/26/13 after about 8 hours of soaking in rain water

My strongest grower no doubt is the JHC Hab. Only one with true leaves.

Jals were planted several weeks ahead of the others but are seriously lagging behind. Combo of dyer soil and starting off in the much cooler garage.

They eventually be moved to 16 oz. Solo cups. My question is when should I move them to the cups? I will water everything with rain water and introduce them to worm casting tea and I want to add worm castings to the Solo cups when I pot them up. Thanks for looking and any advice is welcomed.

Good start. About repotting into solo cups, i usually try to do it right away. Don't forget to drill holes in the bottom of the cups. Also a fan on the seedlings is a must. Keeps the air moving around so the top of the soil doesn't stay wet and the wind with the fan will strengthen up the stems and give you a stronger plant and they won't get too leggy. Introduce them to the worm tea gradually as I'm pretty sure worm castings are high in nitrogen. Good luck!

I put a fan on them for 30 minutes x2 a day. Don't you worry there will be plenty of holes in those cups. So what you are saying is I can go ahead and put them in the solos today?

Looks like you have started things off really good!! This is my first year growing super hots so I claim to be no expert as well. I too have decided to start a glog to track my progress for the year and share with anyone here that wanted to follow along. Your grow list does not looks noobish to me you have a lot of great types of peppers in there and several superhots too. You have a good set up too.

As to the potting up idea I understand that after you get the first true leaves on your sprout then it is time to move out of the germination tray into cups and under some grow lights. I also understand that at that point you can introduce fertilizer but very diluted like half strength at least. I would hold off on the worm casting in the cups at least and wait till you got them out in the ground growing. Someone more experienced can help if I am wrong.

Either way just wanted to say hello and wish you well from another seed starting novice and first time glogger. Oh if you wanna check mine out go here and if not no worries...have a great 2013!! http://thehotpepper....r101-2013-glog/

Yes I'd say the ones that are in the Jiffy plugs go ahead, and the ones in the soil I would wait till they have a nice little root ball.

I am also new to growing seedlings. Everything looks like it is doing well. I'll be watching your progress.

I'm with Mike (FireEater101) on this as well on the worm castings--super dilute verm tea if anything; vermicompost begs for disease when they're this tiny and is too strong, I think. Also, seed has lots of nutes for the plant for quite a while. I use 1/4 strength kelp when they have first true leaves--and yep those in jiffies, into solos with drainage, and hold off for the root ball for ones in trays, as Jamison said. Nice going and some magical WA rain water! For new or been around, doing really well and man, get those fans and air circulation going. Damping off is heartbreaking. My glog is http://thehotpepper.com/topic/37160-annies-2013-glog/--no hooks yet--replant yesterday as over-zeal-kill on keeping uh, the new heat mat warm. Yeah: less is always more. Annie
