they are a very thick walled pepper

yeah those are the Piky Nu Baby Medusa Head Chile Pepper (Capsicum annuum) varient
or aka hot Tiny Thai ornamental pepper
Scoville heat units: 50,000 to 100,000 (extra hot)
I am growing these also they make an excellent dried Tabasco type sauces.
they are also great for making a pepper spray for your garden to ward off critters & insects.
