Need info on this brand so I can make a copy of the same mix.

Malted barley is just barley that has been sprouted and dried. Super common item at brew shops and its cheap. The sprouting creates sugars and enzymes that some bacteria will love. Just call a brew shop and ask for the least expensive malted barley. They might have rice hulls too. A pound is a couple bucks but way cheaper for horticulture grade.
I agree. My local garden center has the perlite in a big brown bag that's 30 bucks. I'll be using rice hulls instead along with some malted barley and some vermiculite.

I live in High Point, and you can buy leaf mulch, wood chips, and "engineered soil" from the city recycling facility on Ingleside.  Greensboro may have something similar, but I've never investigated, since this one is less than a mile from my house.
we have the mulch yard near my house. But I don't have a truck.

You should be making your own compost every year if you have space. That way you control what goes in it. Yard waste and some kitchen waste. Make a circle or square with chicken wire and just start adding layers to it. Feed it a nitrogen source or use a compost starter like Jobes as directed. You can make a compost bin out of tons of stuff....Google it, there are tons of instructions and ideas for compost bins.....its simple.

How much compost depends on your growing mix and rainfall/temps/ect ect ect. Even type/size of pots. Plus the quality of the compost....how much freaking dirt ends up in it.

In my climate with my mix i can go with 40% pine fines, 40% good compost and 20% rice hulls. That is a local growers mix they sell to nurseries and it drains like mad. Needs almost daily watering with fabric pots in the summer. If i cut that mix with 50% ProMix i dont need to water nearly as often and it still drains good.

In my area ive had good luck with Just Natural brand mushroom compost. Some people in other areas said theirs had too much dirt/sand. What ive gotten has been REALLY good stuff for bagged compost. So good ive grown stuff in it with nothing else added.

I really have no interest in making my own compost. I've tried mushroom compost before and it's good. So if I'm skipping vermiculite and just using peat moss, pine bark fines, ice hulls and mushroom compost what would a good percentage/mix be?

Just Natural brand for me has not been like other bagged compost. One year i grew a hab in just the mushroom compost. It did great. If anything it dried out a little too fast. Obviously this can vary from year to year or based on location it was gathered.

I posted the mix that works for me boss. Its in the message you quoted.

Just cut that 40/40/20 mix in half with ProMix or peat moss after you got the first one mixed....I guess thats around 20% compost and 20% aged pine fines when you are done? That is similar to a ProMix BRK20 with 20% compost added

So how much promix all purpose am I adding first? Like am I adding 1/3rd of it? So with promix I add 20% pine bark fines,20% compost and then 10% perlite?

Lets try this one more time

The mix i buy is
40% aged pine fines
40% compost
20% rice hulls

I take that mix and cut it with upto equal amounts of ProMix All Purpose.

1 scoop 40/40/20
1 scoop ProMix

End result would be
50% ProMix
20% aged pine fines
20% compost
10% rice hulls

Right?
