marketing Need suggestions on marketing our sauce

What's the most effective way to get a food product into a retail store?
1) I've started cold calling buyers from the various grocery chains and have been getting the canned "send us a sample and we'll get back to you" response.
2) Food distributors? We currently have only one product and I hear that's a real negative for distributors. We have several other product line in the works though.
3) Food brokers? With no established selling channels yet, I hear that they are usually not interested.
4) Direct sales? we likely cannot generate enough sales this way to stay in business long.

Please share your thoughts, advice, success stories, etc..
