Newbie growing Ají Amarillo in central NC

Ají amarillo pods seems to be growing well but some show soft spots that turn into holes without spreading further. Some have dropped off with stem still attached. Pest? Disease? Over or under watering? Any help appreciated

Sometimes heat and sun damage can do that. They like cooler weather and shade.
