Anandita Dutta Tamuly, 26, chewed her way through the chillies before an audience late Thursday in India's northeast.

She consumed the chillies in the company of British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, who was producing a television show on food and anchoring the event in Jorhat, 300 kilometers (180 miles) east of Assam's main city of Guwahati.

"In two minutes, Anandita gobbled 51 red-hot chillies without batting an eyelid or shedding a tear, and also smeared seeds of 25 chillies into her eyes in one minute," Atul Lahkar, a chef who organised the show, told AFP.

The chillies are known locally as bhut jolokia and are a staple of local diet in Assam. They are recognised by Guinness World Records as the world's hottest chili pepper.

Guinness World Records had "asked us to provide them with a recording of the feat supervised by someone responsible. We asked Ramsay to be the adjudicator," said Diganta Saikia, another coordinator.

Tamuly said she became hooked on hot peppers when she was five years old.

"I had a sore tongue and my mother applied a chilli paste to cure the infection. After that I developed a penchant for chillies," Tamuly said.

Ms Tamuly told Associated Press she "felt terrible" - because she had managed 60 in an earlier local event.

Bhut = ghost in indian

damnit you edited before i could hit quote lol

Firstly...
Atul Lahkar, a local chef, told the Times of India that Ms Tamuly also "smeared seeds of 25 chillies in her eyes in one minute with the crowd simply awestruck".

smeared seeds in her eye... why... why would you want to do that?

Secondly... the previous record is bollocks.
The previous record for eating was held by a South African with eight jalapenos in a minute.

fast fingers ;-)

51 bhuts she's a robot! Put on this earth by a MALEVIOLENT alien race to mess with chilliheads heaDS and strike fear in Neils bowel....

That "deadly pepper" thread with the jackasses that ate those nagas got me thinking about how much it would take since it is a neurotoxin.

According to the MSDS for capsaicin (http://www.sciencelab.com/xMSDS-Capsaicin_Natural-9923296) the LD50 in mice when administered orally is 47.2mg/kg. Have no idea what that woman weighs but that equates to 21.4mg/lb or 1.2g for every 50 lbs. It would take about 3.8g to kill me lol

How many nagas must one eat to kill themselves? And you'd have to be such a badass to pull that off.

if pure capsaicin is 16m scoville units and a bhut can be 1m scoville that should mean a bhut is about 1/16th capsaicin right? If that's the case if each bhut weighs between about 7 and 9 grams(accoring to wiki so who knows). So well say 8g a piece. 8/16=.5g

.5*51=~25 and that is about 7x more than enoug to kill my ass

My math is probably off a bit cause 25g is a shitload of pure cap but I'm not gonna try it. Plus I'd probably wanna die after eating 1 or 2

I think the body would (a) make you vomit or (b)make you poo before you could actually die. And you can never disregard tolerance/ addiction.
One mans poison is another mans good night out.

She is immune to capsacin. It's extremely rare, but very well documented. This is the same girl that rubbed the Jolokias in her eyes with no problems.

Good night out? Which one? The vomit or the poo?

Cheers, TB.
