NMSU researchers establish the genetic mutation that allows superhots to get so hot

I have to wonder what the purpose of creating a 4 million shu pepper would be. Would it be cost effective to genetically modify a plant to make it produce more capsaicin for medical purposes? I would think they could find a way to produce it artifically if they haven't already, but maybe creating hotter pods and extracting it is a cheaper method. I just don't know much about this stuff.
