What are these things and how do I get rid of them? They just showed up the day before yesterday in force. They don't seem to be bothering anything but I need a way to get rid of them nonetheless.

It looks lke aphids.. :(:( I had my first invasion of these this year all over my Naga's and Savinas. I solved the problem by killing as many as I could and bought 1,000 lady bugs to finish them off.

Those look like ladybugs. I believe that people PAY to have those on their peppers. They eat aphids and other bad bugs. I have good eyes but I need a close up to tell you for sure. Don't kill them just yet!
 
Don't I feel dumb! I was looking at the picture below your post since I did not see a pic or a link either. Lol.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!! Those look horrible. I admire your composure, I would be freaking out. Are the plants inside? It looks like it.
You might put them outside. It might not cure it, but it would be an aphid buffet for a few natural predators.

Those aren't thrips, unless they've been taking steroids. My guess would be either aphids or white flies. Looks more like aphids, but do they fly up when you disturb the bush?

Hm, wait a minute, isn't this the time of year that aphids reproduce sexually instead of asexually? If it is, there could be winged aphids.

Hide the wimmen and children, there could be an aphid orgy going on in Paul's backyard! Don't tell Bubba, as he could over-excite himself.

having said this i think about earlier this year my neighbor was growing beans of a sort and were COVERED with ants and aphids. it was brutal and scared me.... and i should have been afraid - they DID end up in my garden!!! the tomatos got the most of them. so i used a one time (or was it twice) spraying of neem oil (which is said to be safe for the good bugs) to knock down the population a bit - really just to knock them off thier cycle.
afterwards the ladybugs (naturally) moved in and took over. havent a problem with aphids since...

so either neem or ladybugs would be a good idea.
 
Sorry about the link everyone, pbase has been flaky lately. Yes this is indoors unfortunately and these are hydro setups so I dont really have the option to move them outside. I guess I will have to get some ladybugs unless someone has another (non chemical) way of doing this. Thanks for the help everyone.
 
Well Ladybugs are fricken expensive to order on the net. $20 shipping on a $4 item. That's for 300 of them. I think I will concoct a little pepper oil spray and give that a go. :rolleyes:

ok you are inside - good info to know;

it is pretty expensive but NEEM OIL is all natural (comes form a tree) but it will last a long time. when mixing NEEM oil you will put about 2 tps in a quart of water, WITH a drop or 2 or NON-ANTIBACTERIAL dish soap (to help mix the oil into the water). both the neem;
makes them not want to eat or have sex and also sufficates them.
and the soap;
dries out thier bodies and kills them
added together are a great combo.


one thing to understand is you have aphids in cycles so you spray today and the new hatchlings will still pop up. so it is very important to RESPRAY every few (2-5) days for a couple weeks. also the neem helps to green up your plants.

there are other ways but this is a good method for me. although lady bugs will work inside they are very creative on HOW to kill themselves. i have lost many to them landing on the bulbs or getting crushed in a door - etc.
and your price for ladybugs does seem high to me. maybe if you can find a hydroponics store you can find either neem or lady bugs.

I like Neem, and I prefer to use it when I need a spray of some sort; but I've never heard or read anything that says it will green up plants. Do you mind if I ask where you heard that?
 
mot sure where i have heard it but i have experienced it many times. i believe there might be some nutrients available through the leaves. but i did read a few places that it creates sort of a waxy type layer on the leaves and helps them retain water. but i am sorry i do not remember where i read that either. lol...

nothing i say is rock, but rather my interpretion of my experiences. LOL
