Oktoberfest Hosky

I love German beer but haven't drank much of it lately as I'm on a health kick.

Today I saw Shiner Oktoberfest on sale for $6.99 at the local Try-N-Save and reckoned I'd give myself a little treat and jump off the wagon.

Popped the cap on the bottle and took a nice fat swill.

And its just that.

Swill.

Barely faint maltiness.

It's 'posed to have hallertauer hops but they used so little why even bother.

Screw that noise.

I'll drink the rest of the sixer because I don't like to be liking wasting anything but I'm sticking to the good stuff from now on.

I should have bought Alaskan Amber instead for only a buck more.

The only other O-fest beers they had were last years Spaten and a Sam Adams I think it was.

'Merican Oktoberfest beers blow.

Plah!

Never tryed that brewer. Thanks for the heads up and CarivanGuitarist is correct.

Maybe this beer would be better. http://www.npr.org/blogs/krulwich/2012/09/18/161338723/u-s-explodes-atomic-bombs-near-beers-to-see-if-they-are-safe-to-drink?ft=1&f=1001&sc=tw&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

I should amend my statement that the Shiner was "swill".

It was so watery it doesn't qualify as swill.

I really would like to endorse local Texas owned breweries but for now I give Shiner the finger.

The only time I've had Spaten was in a German restaurant - and I loved it!

Who makes some for store purchase???? If I could find it - I'd for sure buy it!!!!!!

I think the only pumpkin brew I could find around here would be a Busch Light with a slice of the neighbor's pumpkin in it....

bleh.

A number years ago i had a pumpkin beer that was good. but can't recall the brewer.

Buffalo Bill's Brewery here in Hayward, CA makes one that some people like.
I personally am not much of a fan of flavored beers.

Pumpkin ales are fall seasonals, not Oktoberfest beers (märzens).

Well, I just found a "seasonal" beer that I'm quite enjoying!

But I was informed I'm not allowed to post about it here because it's not "Oktoberfest".

(but it's pumpkin and i like it!!!)

Our store is a tad bit behind here - we couldn't fins any true Oktoberfest beer yet, cuz, well, it's not October yet!
It's just how things roll here in the mountains I guess!!!!!

Will keep searching tho!

This thread reminds me of Logic 101.

Scovie tried to explain to me why an "Oktoberfest" beer is not a "seasonal" beer.
And why a "seasonal" beer that only comes out in October is not an Oktoberfest beer.

It didn't take, because now I am confused!
Any better explanationiers out there?????

Meanwhile, I will continue to sip on my non-Oktoberfest-but-tasty-seasonal-pumpkin-brew!!!!!!!!!
