One Kilogram of Naga Powder

I recently purchased a kilogram of chipotle powder from Frontal AgriTech. The heat and flavor of the powder is so excellent that I can't praise them enough.

From curiosity, I emailed Leena at Frontal AgriTech and asked how many peppers it takes to make one kilogram of the powder.

She told me it takes 1500 peppers.

I paid 72 dollars (all included) for the powder. No fuss, no muss, no growing.

I think 72 bucks is a very fair price, considering how much powder that is and how long and at what price 1500 Nagas would have taken me to grow.

Not to mention the drying and roasting and grinding of the powder.

Hell of a deal! Just thought you all might want to know that.

definitely sounds like a great deal. But the growing is the best part isn't it? Although I don't think I'd be trying to grow 1500 naga's anytime soon. Sounds like a score to me!

1500 nagas would take around 4 plants to a season i am guessing so yes that is a very good deal, i dunno what i would do with 1 kg of powder though except make naga extract and that would last like forever! What are your plans for the powda?

I have all kinds of experiments I want to try. For $72, I can play with this stuff a bunch of ways. It's not like I'm risking what I worked for in an entire season. I risking less than I would spend on one good night out. A few flavors of seasonings are my starting games. I like heat in almost everything I eat, but I do like variety in flavors of course. I think using this stuff will be fun.

Four plants? That would be over 350 peppers per plant. I won't get that many from my paprika plants and they are loaded.

Mike

I made some Cinnamon and Spice Oatmeal this morning and put just a pinch of the powder in it. DAMN was that good! It made some very bland oatmeal into a meal that gave my taste buds something to think about!

Thats a good idea, I've never tried it in oatmeal.. I'm gonna have to give that a go!

Nice score FloridaSun, but over half the fun is growing them. :)

I didn't count pods each picking, but just taking a rough estimate from my harvest pics I've harvested over 1500 pods from three Naga plants and the season isn't over yet. Nagas are just very prolific and amazing producers of some fine heat. :)

Thats sounds like a great deal

The biggest most productive plants I ever grew were nagas and I got around 2500 pods off my biggest plant

You got 2500 pods off of one plant POWAWIE? Dude, that is the shiznit!

FloridaSun, what does a kilo of Naga powder look like?

Dammit! So I have to stop growing?;)

WTF was the OP smoking then? No offense, but seriously.

Sorry! The title says naga, but this clearly says "smoked jalapeno".

Chipotle just means smoked pepper. Probably smoked nagas.

I hear you. I was thrown off by that as well but I checked the site and they seem to be all about the bhuts and nagas. seems crazy the deals they're giving though.

I'm not sure a smoked naga is a chipotle.

If they are selling smoked nagas, then WOW.
Yes, they are smoked nagas and yes, they are chipotles.

Chipotle doesn't mean Jalapenos. It's any smoked pepper. In the USA, and even with quite a lot of Mexicans, Jalapenos are used exclusively for chipotle, but the original term just means "Smoked or Roasted Chilis.

One email to them would clear it up for you. Leena is a very nice person.

And yes, it's as hot as any naga and has a very good chipotle flavor.

The OP was right on.

I understand that's true for you, but for me, growing them is a PITA. I have lots of other projects that keep me busy as hell.

I do love peppers. I grow a few for variety in my eating, but I do almost nothing to the plants. They grow or die, it's up to them....

Chipotle powder is not naga powder....

What am I missing here?

If it is the same price for naga powder, I will quit growing.
You can quit growing now, because chipotle powder is any smoked pepper powder.

Roasting?
Yes, a pepper becomes a chipotle when roasted.

I know you knew that...I don't understand why you would ask...

Holy crap, what a bunch of critics.

Yes, they do sell them obviously. I have a kg of them. Email Leena and ask for their price listing. The price doesn't include the freight. Including frieght, mine were $72 for one kg of chipotle nagas.

One email to her and all of this critisism and doubt would fall away.

It comes in a box, containing a bag that is about a foot square and marked as if it contained hazmat materials. "Warning-Warning" hehe

And they're not kidding. It's as hot as you'd think it is, being nagas. A little of this stuff goes a long, long way.

Well I was going to apologize, bu you seem to have taken it a little far yourself.

I am almost sure that not any smoked pepper is a chipotle, but what does it matter.

Sounds like a great find.

cheers.
