I use about 4 parts sour cream to 1 part cream cheese when making onion dips. I buy several bunches of green onions at a time. Dehydrate the green part and sometimes toast the white part. Beats the hell out of the packets you used to be able to buy. Jalapeno powder is killer in it.

Found a pic of mine. Ive made it with the addition of fresh chives also. It will stiffin up over night as the powders suck up some of the moisture. Jalapeno or green Hatch powder REALLY make this a killer dip. Pretty good on tacos too.

Solid old skool french onion dip recipe.

I tend to riff on it a bit , I now just take longer to caramelize the onions and leave out the baking soda and sugar . I add more of the onions and also some onion powder , dried minced onion and apple cider vinegar powder to taste at the point where the garlic powder is added. Add your favourite spicy extra as you like. Hot sauce, powder , flake , pure evil whatever.
