Operation Golden Garden 2014: Let's Get Started!

**Instead of starting an entirely new GLOG, I decided to tack 2014 on to the end of this one. So if you have already went through 2013's grow, just jump ahead to page 40.**

Before you go on, I would recommend you grab a beer or something else stiff to drink.  If you didnt follow my grow last time around, I have the tendency to go on, and on, and on, and on.  Also, I may not be the most "PC" out of the group, so if you are looking for clean language, on topic discussion, and general 'niceness', I am sure that I can point you in the right direction.

Ok, now that we got that out of the way....I AM STARTING A FREAKIN GROW LOG!  A quick bit of back story. Since I spent more time in high school partying than studying, I didn't have much of a choice following graduation. I decided to enlist in the Marines (there really isnt another choice) and now here I am 8 years and 5 deployments later.  This last go around I left the first few days of September and just got back yesterday (9 months for all the other 'non studying' folk).  As most of you know, if you want some bangin pepper plants, you need to start early, and May 25th aint early.  So right before I left I cut everything back and prayed to the pepper gods that my plants would make it through winter so I could have something to come home to.  Up until yesterday I thought that they were just taking time to put on some green, but when I walked through the fence to see my dogs, a ritual that I typically do after every deployment, I realized that the plants were not there and instead was four trays of new plants just waiting for planting.

Note:  IPhones are not the world's leading video recording devices.  And as a result, I may not be easily heard.  Dont worry, I didn't have much to say initially anyways, I was just a bit more surprised than anything.

For someone who seems to always talk a bit too much, I didnt have much to say initially.  I was freaking out inside and didnt know if my wife got them or what.  When she told me that the guys from THP did it, i was blown away.  You gotta understand, over the past 9 months Bill (RocketMan) organized a "Operation Hot Sauce" care package rotation for me and my guys.  A bunch of members here chipped in and sent packages of sauces, powders, peppers, and other treats to help make this deployment a bit more enjoyable.  To hear that they ALSO chipped in and GAVE ME A GROWING SEASON pretty much put me over the edge.  I know that I already messaged you guys but I wanna thank RocketMan, Coheed196, Romy6, KingDenniz, Silver_Surfer, STC3248, DesertChris, Sanarda, MuskyMojo, Pulpeteer, WalkGood, DocNRock. Stickman, Annie57, Pic 1, Pr0digal_Son, Jamison, Spicy Chicken, HighHalt, Fremp, SethSquach, 3/5 King, Patrick, Bigoldude again for helping make this happen for me.  And although giving me a garden was WAY MORE THAN ENOUGH, they also gave me a little sumpin sumpin that will help out picking up the last minute things that I need to make sure I have everything I need for the season!

So this morning, I got up early because I am still on Afghanistan time, cooked breakfast, and then after the family ate we went out to the garden to plant everything.

Thanks Matt

Hey, Matt, just stopped by to see what's what in your grow.
Pretty darn awesome table full of pods!  Looks like a banner
season for you - hope there's another haul in the works for ya.

Dude, you gotta get the allergy thing dialed in.  Has to be a PITA,
although a good excuse to eat pappers if you need one!

Good week to you, Matt.

Awesome pics and glad to see you had an awesome year.  I just picked my first real harvest today and have to post up the pics later.  I didnt get any in the garden because it was getting dark and I had quite a few peppers to pick.    .  Looks like you have been busy from my last visit here.  You should have a few more weeks of good weather I hope.

Glad to see you are eyeballs deep in harvest! It's nice when the garden goes to auto pilot mode when things get busy.

That is a sweet looking 1911! Good luck getting the course formalized so you have more time to spend at the range and in the garden.

Ever get to try the sauce I sent?

Hi Matt, been awhile since I dropped in, I had so much going on this year health wise, but had to come by and shake your tree to see what would fall out., I really like your Chats and your reveiws bust my gutts, I grew both the Barrackpore and Infinity and I can say I feel your pain, I pretty much felt that I might stroak out on the barrackpore and the Infinity was almost as bad, but had to wimp on it, as I was ill at the time and was told by the doctor not to get crazy and eat a hot pepper, so I just scrapped all the oil off the inside and licked  the oil off the blade of my knife. Yea I know I wimped on that one, but had some serious things going on at the time.
I'm still not allowed to eat any superhots course they mess with my insides too much. Just as well right now I would rather swallow a camel spider and have it crawl out my Butt,  than eat  one of those Savannahs. Really  though its on my grow list.
I really like your sidearms, I have been thinking of picking up a piece for home protection, maybe the old stand by colt.45 as I know that if I have to shoot someone he will go down and not get up, that and a street sweeper in case things got really bad. In the next couple of years I may hit the road with my sister and drive through some rough places where a man needs to keep his pistol close and his powder dry. Never a bad idea to keep yourself coved if things get out of hand. I f do go on the road it will be an adventure of a lifetime for me, hell once I get to the west coast I might catch me a Jet to Thailand and spend some time there,
I'd have to leave my goodies with my sis if I did so I don't think Homeland would let me bring them, but I could cross over to Cambodia and pick up a couple babies if I had too. I spent some time in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam years back and a person still can live damn good on a SSI check, plenty of EXpats there already.
Well keep up the good work can't wait to see what you will be growing and can't wait for more reviews and chats.

Yo Yo Yo...so I am still alive...and so are the plants!  This shit is ridiculous, the plants are loaded down again so I am not complaining if I can get another pull before the weather kills everything.  I have 4 plants in pots right now that are still lookin healthy, and i am thinking about setting up the grow tent tomorrow or Sunday and throwin them in there with the HID.  But until there, got some snaps.

I know it is blurry, but it is sad that these Brains aren't gonna make it...cuz they are starting to look pretty beautiful!

Looks like I got some of those pepper schmo Reapers.  Its cool, not a fan of the regular strain anyways...

These are from the Billy Boy Douglah Red pods I got last season from SS.  Lookin pretty hybrid-ish.

This was supposed to be a ButchT Mississippi Strain...not really lookin like a BT...LOL.  If anyone has some real BT MS seeds, hit me up.

BB Jonahs...LOOKING FREAKING AMAZING!

Savannah F2

The  CCN TS are no joke.  Freaking amazing!

And Sunday's Pull.

Also, whoever just decided to bring this thread back from the dead WHILE I am updating it...nice!

I've got two sacks of green and semi ripe pods that need to be worked over before my grand daughter's dog  gets to them he likes my golden Marconi peppers and keeps sticking his nose in the bag with the hot peppers he's tried to eat a couple, but soon drops them.
We have had two light frost, but it looks like a mild warm up for at least a week then we will get a cold rain on Halloween after that is a new ball game.
Looks like I will be popping by a little more often here and with Peri Peri and others that are in warm climates, Hate the cold but for now I'm stuck with it.
Have a Happy halloween Matt will be looking forward to another chat or a review.

I've intended to post this picture for awhile now.  This is what Matt sent to me a couple of weeks ago.  It's all great and as an added bonus, some of the pods are from strains I don't have and am wanting to grow next year.

Thanks, Matt!  Your generosity is most appreciated.

Yah Matt It an't over till the lady sings, right now she is singing here, the temps are dropping into the teens tonight to finish off what little was left, as one door closes another will open such is life.

Still looking great, Matt!  Nice harvests; must be very satisfying for you!
Keep up the good work - Fall clean up just around the corner!

BTW, am having my own 'calf implant' on Friday.
Thanks for the info you sent - now I have an idea
what to expect.

Have a good week, bro.

Hey Matt how about a little chat? whats your weather doing and do you still have plants growing, two days ago it was in the 30's today it looks like we will break 70, but Tues. it will be back in the upper 30's again.  Just pulled out my seed box and am getting some seeds ready for a Nubie, I think what I'm sending him will rock his 2014 grow he asked for just 5 seeds of seven varieties, but as I have a lot of seeds I'll just fill up his SASBE with enough and then some.
Well my ramon is done so I'm gone for now.

Alrighty folks, lets get 2014 started. Like I mentioned back on page one, I decided to tack 2014's season on to the end of this GLOG. My dad and sister came in for Thanksgiving, so I put him to work while my wife and sister hung out. We got the tent put up pretty quickly, and I am starting to gather supplies to get the inside set. Last season I built a table and this go around I wanted a bit more space. I was at Lowe's getting ready to pick up some wood for a new design and they were having a black Friday sale that I couldn't pass up. I picked up a 5' x 4' x 18" shelving unit for 50 bucks (and a 10% mil discount).  I actually got 2 of them, but there is no way I am gonna get 3 more t5s to maximize their use, so I am gonna use the other one for some extra storage in the garage.

Here are a few photos.

I plan on only using the top rack initially and expanding to both racks at some point later in the season. I have been eying the 72 cell star shaped seedling flats, and I am planning on using four of them per light. My light (Hydrofarm T5 4X6) will cover 5 cells per flat if oriented vertically, so that will give me 200 cells per shelf. 2 shelves at 200 each will give me 400 spots for the initial planting. I have found another t5 on Amazon for 160 with bulbs, so once that comes in I can be set to start.

With this setup, I plan to use the t5s until about March when I wanna swap to my 600w MH. This should allow me to use both shelves and get the coverage needed.  The T5s are very efficient and effective lights, however, they are not the best at canopy penetration. The HiD should hit both shelves if i rotate every few days and supplement the bottom shelf as needed.

Anyways, onto the initial grow list. This will definitely be changing. I am waiting for at least 3 pkgs with more varieties, so we shall see...
