Operation Golden Garden 2014: Let's Get Started!

**Instead of starting an entirely new GLOG, I decided to tack 2014 on to the end of this one. So if you have already went through 2013's grow, just jump ahead to page 40.**

Before you go on, I would recommend you grab a beer or something else stiff to drink.  If you didnt follow my grow last time around, I have the tendency to go on, and on, and on, and on.  Also, I may not be the most "PC" out of the group, so if you are looking for clean language, on topic discussion, and general 'niceness', I am sure that I can point you in the right direction.

Ok, now that we got that out of the way....I AM STARTING A FREAKIN GROW LOG!  A quick bit of back story. Since I spent more time in high school partying than studying, I didn't have much of a choice following graduation. I decided to enlist in the Marines (there really isnt another choice) and now here I am 8 years and 5 deployments later.  This last go around I left the first few days of September and just got back yesterday (9 months for all the other 'non studying' folk).  As most of you know, if you want some bangin pepper plants, you need to start early, and May 25th aint early.  So right before I left I cut everything back and prayed to the pepper gods that my plants would make it through winter so I could have something to come home to.  Up until yesterday I thought that they were just taking time to put on some green, but when I walked through the fence to see my dogs, a ritual that I typically do after every deployment, I realized that the plants were not there and instead was four trays of new plants just waiting for planting.

Note:  IPhones are not the world's leading video recording devices.  And as a result, I may not be easily heard.  Dont worry, I didn't have much to say initially anyways, I was just a bit more surprised than anything.

For someone who seems to always talk a bit too much, I didnt have much to say initially.  I was freaking out inside and didnt know if my wife got them or what.  When she told me that the guys from THP did it, i was blown away.  You gotta understand, over the past 9 months Bill (RocketMan) organized a "Operation Hot Sauce" care package rotation for me and my guys.  A bunch of members here chipped in and sent packages of sauces, powders, peppers, and other treats to help make this deployment a bit more enjoyable.  To hear that they ALSO chipped in and GAVE ME A GROWING SEASON pretty much put me over the edge.  I know that I already messaged you guys but I wanna thank RocketMan, Coheed196, Romy6, KingDenniz, Silver_Surfer, STC3248, DesertChris, Sanarda, MuskyMojo, Pulpeteer, WalkGood, DocNRock. Stickman, Annie57, Pic 1, Pr0digal_Son, Jamison, Spicy Chicken, HighHalt, Fremp, SethSquach, 3/5 King, Patrick, Bigoldude again for helping make this happen for me.  And although giving me a garden was WAY MORE THAN ENOUGH, they also gave me a little sumpin sumpin that will help out picking up the last minute things that I need to make sure I have everything I need for the season!

So this morning, I got up early because I am still on Afghanistan time, cooked breakfast, and then after the family ate we went out to the garden to plant everything.

That's one heck of an assortment of peppers Matt! Can't wait to see those babies out enjoying that Carolina Sun. Are you planning on any non peppers for 2014 or just sticking to them? Either way you have a heck of a grow planed.

Great score on the shelving units, Matt.  You may have to
appropriate some storage space to get all those starts in
a cozy home!

Good luck with your 2014 grow.

You know, I really haven't decided yet. I am still on the fence. I seem to have much more luck with peppers, and destroy everything else. I would like to grow some more stuff (maters, beans, squash), but I have so many pepper plants planned that I have no idea if I will be able to handle it.

Awesome prep work for next season! Can't wait to see that list grow out!
Thanks! Yea, everyone will get to reap the benefits of the grow. I really cant wait to be able to fill boxes with crazy ass crosses that people have never tried!

I know I haven't been around lately, my bad. I have been swamped at work, and when I get home the kiddo is full time until about 8. Then I am pretty much tapped out and have to find time to do anything productive. As the plants start, Ill be around more and get to cruize all your GLogs. I have pretty much decided to stay out of the non-GLog boards, I just don't like what I see. I used to be very involved in the debate and extremely opinionated, but I can't keep up with that anymore. Too many people who are jumping up and down and beating their chest. Not for me...

On a good note, got another seed drop today!  I got some Orange Daisy Cutters, 7 Pot Peanut, and Yellow Pixies. Thanks Denniz! I haven't heard much of the second and third, but I have been lookin for the Daisy Cutters for a minute.

Here's to the weekend!

I'm a very opinionated person too, and need to spend less time in the forums, lol. Anyway, I'm going to have a great season too. The 2 Scotch bonnet MoAs you sent me sprouted. That's 2 out of 2. The first one in the cell that doesn't sprout true leaves gets culled. Finally I have some real Scotch bonnets! I'd do a grow log, but every year I don't keep up with it.

Matt,

I found pots at a decent price, 70 1 gallon pots for $46.00 delivered. Might be better deals out there but they can't be much cheaper.

I agree with Paul, family first, it's worth it!

Have a great weekend!

No apologies necessary, Matt;  life happens, especially for a young family!

Family first!
Thanks Paul! Yea, the kiddo is goin nuts lately. He is full of energy and loves to run around and terrorize the dogs. He is obsessed with riding on my lawn mower and in my truck, so my dad got him a kids 4 wheeler. It goes 2 mph (it can be bumped up to 6, but we are a year or so away from that) and he loves that thing. He went from not even understanding the concept of turning to doing a full donut. Smart little kid...must have got it from his mother!

Thats great! Those babies are all over now. I can't wait to grow them out as well. I am not growing much non supers, but those are one of the few that are gonna get a spot!

It's cool. Most of us are crazy busy with work and all those grown up responsibility.

Forget never tried, a bunch of those I haven't even heard of!
I know man, I was in the office on Friday and was like...I finally feel like an adult. I am working harder now that I have ever in my entire life, and I have deployed 5 times! Doing staff work (meetings, working groups, boss stuff) is freaking draining...lol! Sometimes I miss just being told what to do and where to go!

Well come next summer you will get plenty of them to try!

Where at? I will probably procrastinate and wait until they are busting at the seams to get em, but I am still gonna need some! lol.

Holy list Matt! Some serious, serious contenders on there. Gonna be a warm summer. Gonna be an amazing glog as always!
Yea man, I am a bit surprised about it myself. I am considering cutting it down a bit and focusing on the hybrids/crosses...but that may not happen...lol.

Yeah,,,well I been drinking and I ain't responsible for sheet!
That is the best kind of responsibility!

I find it is better to be busy like that but you're right it goes get draining. Right now at work we are directed to not work over our 40hrs due to the budget issues but still expected to work the 50 or so hours and growing it takes to get all the work done. Its alright for a little while but definitely draining and frustrating.

I'll have to get some brews going to send in return for a couple boxes! I won't have any crazy crosses this year but there is one I would like to make next year if by BG7 seeds sprout and are true. May be a few years for it to come out how I want though haha.

I got them at http://www.fullbloomhydroponics.net and whenever you get them they will be stuck together, most were in groups of 4, don't know if this happened in shipped or they think it's funny...LOL

I filled the sink halfway with warm soapy water and used a Snapon pry-bar with a 3/4" wide blade and worked them around twisting the pry-bar, they came right apart and no damage.

Desk work IS definitely more boring tiring than physical work, gotta find a reason to get up and do something :shh:

I remember those days, Matt, and it's true that those years pass
too quickly, so you take every moment, brother!  Pretty soon your son
will be tuning up your truck!
